Android brands are battling to snag just 3.6% of iPhone users willing to switch

iPhone loyalty is at a record high according to a new survey where 96.4% of iPhone owners said they were planning to stick with Apple for their next upgrade.

The survey from trade-in site SellCell (via MacRumors) found that just 3.6% of iPhone users were planning to go elsewhere, leaving the likes of Google, Samsung and OnePlus targeting a smaller group of people than ever before.

In 2019, 90.5% of respondents were planning on staying loyal to iPhone and, when the company repeated the survey in 2021, the answer came back at 91.9%. So, of the ~10% of iPhone users felt ready for a new experience back then, less than 5% do now.

So, perhaps that why you don’t hear so much shade thrown from Samsung anymore in the direction of the iPhone? Has the company accepted that it’s chances of peeling off significant numbers of iPhone users aren’t that great?

Incidentally, 67% of those iPhone users willing to switch (so about 2.4% of iPhone users overall) would choose a Samsung phone with the majority of the rest of them picking a Pixel phone. As for everyone else? Well, they’re barely getting a sniff of anyone with an iPhone currently.

Android phone makers are, in the vast majority of cases, competing with each other which is also evidenced by SellCell’s survey. They found that Android users were four-times more likely to switch platforms, although that still tallied just 13.6% of users in total. The survey only interviewed 5,000 people so it’s far from universal, but a useful indicator of the state of play.
