Sony’s Reon Pocket Pro Plus is bizarre, but here’s why it should be its coolest gadget yet

It’s not normally a good thing when something sends a chill down your spine – but that’s exactly what Sony is aiming for with the latest generation of its wackiest wearable.

The Reon Pocket Pro Plus promises to get even colder than its predecessor, keeping you cooler for longer when the mercury rises, while also staying more secure and being more comfortable to wear.

Originally conceived by an engineer from Sony’s Alpha camera division, the personal temperature regulator gadget is the third of its kind to head west. Earlier models were only sold in Asia but the Reon Pocket 5 came to the UK in 2024 and the Reon Pocket Pro saw limited European release in 2025.

Those used thermoelectric cooling (TEC) plates to drop as low as 22 degrees celcius; this new model can dip two degrees lower, using clever new algorithms that could be the difference between a pleasant office environment/commuter journey and a shirt soaked in sweat. I’m looking forward to finding out what a difference that makes in properly hot conditions, after a heatwave showed me the Reon Pocket Pro‘s limits last year.

It can still keep you warmer in the winter too, heating up to toasty (yet skin-safe) levels.

The climate control clip-on also comes with a redesigned neckband that Sony says brings a 40% boost to stability, making it less likely to move while you’re walking and lose contact with your skin. A new-look vent, which pokes out over the top of your shirt collar to exhaust warm air, can now be tilted in case your clothes get in the way.

As with previous versions, the Pocket Pro Plus comes bundled with a smart tag that measures ambient temperatures, letting the Pocket Pro Plus make a better judgement call than it could do solo whilst stuffed down your shirt. The smartphone companion app can also make adjustments on the fly if you’re starting to feel the heat.

Battery life remains at a maximum ten hours of cooling, depending on how cold you like it. That matches the previous version, despite getting 20% cooler.

The Reon Pocket Pro Plus is on sale right now, directly from Sony and via Amazon. Pricing is set at £199 in the UK and €229 in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Spain, Italy. There was no word of a planned US launch at the time of writing.
