Samsung Galaxy S27 Pro tipped as fourth variant – here’s why it could be a hit

Samsung is reportedly planning to add a fourth variant to its flagship Galaxy S line of smartphones, with a Galaxy S27 Pro being added to next year’s series.

The word comes from Korean publication ETNews, which reckons the device – that’ll join a standard, Plus and Ultra version of the phone – will have a 6.47-inch display (likely billed as 6.5-inch), but will not have room for the S Pen stylus.

It seems Samsung desires a more premium version of the phone but in a smaller package – a little like Apple with its standard, Plus, iPhone Pro and Pro Max variants, only with different display sizes for all four models

The current standard Galaxy S26 offers a 6.27-inch display, while the Galaxy S26 Plus is 6.66-inch and the Galaxy S26 Ultra is 6.89-inches. So there could be plenty of choice for Galaxy fans in 2027.

The report says the Pro models will carry most of the same specs as the Ultra, minus the S Pen support. So the fastest chip speed, best display tech and the best cameras for sure and then perhaps a larger battery. There might be a little more RAM on board too.

That could be a boon for fans of more compact phones. Our reviewer called the Galaxy S26 as “another underwhelming annual update,” so another option would be welcomed.

An unnamed official told the publication: “We are preparing four models of Galaxy S27 next year, and a new model will be applied to a new model with a new size of 6.47 inches display that Samsung Electronics has never tried before.”

We’re still a while away from Samsung pushing out the next flagship devices in the S-Series. It’ll probably be around next January or February they see the light of day.

Before that, the summer usually brings new foldables. This year that’s particularly notable due to the expectation of a Galaxy Z Fold with a wider aspect ratio. The intention is thought to be to get ahead of the iPhone Ultra handset due later this year. That may carry a similar design, according to recent rumours.
