Seeing red over your Galaxy S26 Ultra display? Don’t worry, Samsung has a software fix incoming

Samsung has confirmed it is working on a fix for a reported issue with Galaxy S26 Ultra smartphone displays, after some users complained their screens have taken on a red tint.

The top Android phone brand claims there’s no issue with the hardware, which will come as a relief to device owners. It says the problem is a result of long exposure to bright lighting while at full brightness and can be resolved with a software-based calibration.

“We are aware of reports regarding the display colour balance on some Galaxy S26 Ultra devices. The reported symptom can occur under specific conditions, such as prolonged exposure to strong lighting while operating at maximum brightness, as is typical of retail display environments,” Samsung told Engadget in a statement.

That’s consistent with reports of users seeing the red tint on display models in retail stores as well as on models purchased. The company explained that the software-based fix for the issue will be released in the future at a date to be determined.

The statement continued: “The display itself continues to function normally. As this is a matter of colour balance rather than physical damage or a hardware defect, it can be addressed through software-based colour calibration, and display panel replacement is not required.

“The calibration applies optimised adjustment values using proven technology that Samsung has long used to precisely manage OLED display quality, restoring a uniform colour balance across the entire screen. The timing of the software update is still being determined.”

This appears to allay fears among some of the user base that the issue has been caused by the Privacy Display feature, which is exclusive to the Galaxy S26 Ultra. We’ll let you know when the software update drops.
