Google may be about to deepen its partnership with legendary NBA star Stephen Curry with a special edition band for the forthcoming Pixel Watch 5 smartwatch rumoured to be coming later this week.
Leaked marketing mortals uncovered by OnLeaks and published by MyMobiles reveals an exclusive new brand developed in tandem with the Golden State Warriors star and all-time NBA three-point scoring leader.
The band, which includes a ‘water repellent’ coating and the branding “Stephen Curry #LockIn”, in a nod to the player’s pre-game mantra, appears to be a more durable alternative to the stock band for the Pixel Watch series.
“Designed with 4x NBA champion Stephen Curry, this special edition band features a water-repellent coating for your toughest workouts,” the marketing materials published today explain.
It doesn’t appear as if there’s anything about the Pixel 5 watch itself that’s different, but it’s possible there’ll be a bespoke watch face to match.
According to the report today, the special edition will cost around £35/£27 more than the standard 45mm LTE Pixel Watch 5, which seems to confirm that it’s all about the band. According tot he report it may be limited edition too.
Earlier this year, Google also announced a special Steph Curry edition band for the Fitbit Air screen-free wearable tracker.
