Ready to see the first Googlebook laptops in action? Google sets a date for the big reveal

Google has announced a dedicated event for its new line of Gemini Intelligence-based Googlebook laptops – and it’s happening within the next month. Invites have been sent to the media for a showcase in New York on September 15 where the company will reveal the new hardware, enable attendees to go hands-on with the new products, and capture photos and videos with the first devices to launch.

So far, we know that hardware partners like Acer, Dell, Lenovo, ASUS, and HP have committed to make Googlebooks so it’s likely we’ll see machines from those companies officially unveiled during the event. None of the notebooks build to Gemini Intelligence from the ground up have been revealed yet although a leak of a Lenovo model have given us a sneak peak.

As well as the media hands-ons, Chrome Unboxed reports the itinerary speaks of a keynote where Google leadership will demonstrate the new software, which brings together the best of Chrome OS and Android but is primarily Android-based. This should be enlightening considering Google has stayed quiet about Googlebooks since the initial preview in May at Google I/O.

Google did explain a feature called ‘Magic Pointer’ which enables users to summon Gemini by wiggling the cursor over an on-screen item. That’ll summon some contextual suggestions like an offer to book a meeting if you hover over the date in an email. Google also previewed a ‘create a widget’ feature, that will pull information from various apps into one dashboard. It could be handy if you’re planning a trip, for example.

There’s also a “glowbar” feature, which might be similar to the HiLight feature recently revealed on Pixel 11 phones, showing notifications and interactions with Gemini.

The hands-on component of the event should be significant because it doesn’t appear as if Google is planning on live streaming the event on September 15.
