Google gave OG Pixel Watch users a reason for an increase in heart rate and stress levels earlier this week when it informed wearers that support for several health-related features on the smartwatch was going away.

Some owners of the first-generation GPW received a notification informing them: “Update your watch to keep using Google Health. Your watch is running an older version of Wear OS and will soon stop syncing sleep and workout data with Google Health. Update your watch to the latest version to keep tracking your health.”

For some users that provided a quandary, because it no longer receives the latest Wear OS updates and haven’t for almost a year now. Were they now screwed? Thankfully not. In a post on the Google support community, the company revealed the Pixel Watch 1 users have received the message in error and that the 2022 watch remains fully supported.

“Thanks everyone for providing feedback. To clear up the recent confusion: the Pixel Watch 1 remains fully supported. We had a bug where some users received this card incorrectly. Thanks for raising this, it has now been resolved.

“In order for things to continue working smoothly, it’s always best to keep your watch up to date. Those users will need the last supported version of Wear OS is to keep things ticking over and that’s currently Wear OS 4.”

Google has just announced the next-generation Pixel Watch 5 which had led to speculation the company might be forcing obsolescence on Pixel Watch owners in the hope it would lead to an upgrade. Thankfully that’s not the case.

The Pixel Watch 5 earned a four star review from Stuff.tv, underlining its status as the go-to Android watch, but falling short of perfect due to the iterative nature of the updates compared to the Pixel Watch 4.
