Best OLED TVs set for huge longevity, brightness and efficiency boost – ready to FLiPP out with LG?

LG Display makes some of the best OLED televisions around, but the Korean giant isn’t resting on its laurels. LG has just announced a new OLED tech called FLiPP (FMM-Less innovative Pixel Patterning) that it promises will push beyond the limitations of the current technology in three key ways – longevity, brightness and efficiency.

LG describes the FLiPP tech as “dream next-generation OLED” tech that surpasses the current generation FMM (fine metal mask) panel technology, which includes inherent limits in producing high resolution at scale because of the way the technology is built.

It works by removing the FMM from in front of each layer of red, green and blue pixels. That has traditionally been an effective but inefficient and highly technical process that produces deep and dark blacks from the individual bulbs, but results in a lot of organic materials being lost during the process of manufacturing.

However, FLiPP “evaporates RBG organic materials across the whole substrate and uses UV to etch away unnecessary parts during the pixel patterning” LG says.

LG says this creates “perfect Pixels without the FMMs” The result is a 1.6-times improvement in luminance, a 2.4-times increase in lifespan and a 13% decrease in power consumption. The tech is also free from size or resolution limits, meaning it’s applicable from smartwatch to smart TV and including AR and VR displays.

“One of FLiPP’s greatest advantages is that it is free from panel size and resolution constraints,” LG says. “In theory, it can be used to produce displays ranging from 1 inch to 100 inches and can be applied not only to conventional panels but also to VR and AR displays.”

The company just demonstrated it at a display conference in Busan, so maybe we’ll see it on show as a proof of concept at LG’s CES 2026 booth in January?
