Arc’teryx’s first “circular” jacket promises repairable, recyclable gear – is this the future of outdoor kit?

Arc’teryx has just launched System 0. It’s a new approach to making outdoors gear that’s designed to be repaired, then recycled, rather than binned.

The first product to wear the badge is the Sperro SV. It’s a mountain-grade hardshell jacket, built with circularity in mind from day one.

That’s a big deal for outdoor brands, because most technical apparel is a nightmare to recycle. It’s stitched together from mixed materials that are nearly impossible to separate.

Sperro SV tries to fix that by using Gore-Tex Pro Fabric and the newer ePE membrane, so it should hold up to genuinely miserable weather.

The nylon face fabric and backer are designed to be pulled apart at the end of the jacket’s life. Arc’teryx has partnered with Aquafil, the company behind ECONYL regenerated nylon, to turn that fabric into new yarn once it’s done.

It’s also the first product certified by TESTEX Circularity, a new standard Arc’teryx helped create. That’s worth noting, because it means there’s now an actual benchmark for this kind of claim, rather than just claiming it in a press release.

The jacket has also been tested by North Shore Rescue, the search and rescue team based near Arc’teryx’s Vancouver home. That should be a decent stress test for any hardshell.

Arc’teryx says it’s reinforced the usual weak points too, including a new easily replaceable zipper slider (because zips are usually the first thing to go on a jacket like this).

Buyers get three years of unlimited repairs through Arc’teryx’s ReBIRD scheme, and, once the jacket can’t be repaired anymore, it goes through a chemical recycling process that separates the nylon from the Gore-Tex membrane.

CEO Stuart Haselden says the brand wants gear to have “a purpose beyond its first life.”

Sperro SV lands globally on September 4, 2026, through Arc’teryx stores and arcteryx.com. Pricing hasn’t been confirmed yet.
