The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max smartphones is now available to order, bringing a fresh selection of colours. The hardware hasn’t changed a great deal – though there are some standout features such as the variable aperture camera and longer battery life.

That means the phone sticks with the aluminum/aluminium enclosure used for the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max. It’s still an interesting choice because on my iPhone 17 Pro it has seemed less durable than the titanium Apple used for its Pro phones in 2023 and 2024; I’ve got a couple of dings and there are also some very small areas around the camera lenses (and the edge of the camera ‘plateau’ as Apple calls it) where the color has rubbed away,

But the advantage of using aluminum/aluminium is that it can be more easly colored, The titanium finishes were very plain. For example, the iPhone 15 Pro line-up offered Natural Titanium, White Titanium, and Blue Titanium with the 16 Pro offering Natural Titanium, White Titanium, and Space Black Titanium as well as the bronze/gold Desert Titanium. All use a microblasted titanium frame and toughened rear glass.

This year’s iPhone 18 Pro lineup comes in four colors. There’s the usual black and silver, but they’re joined by ‘glacier’ which is a pale, icy-type blue and this year’s standout – burgundy which – as the name suggests – is a dark red wine color. The range is a little more muted than last year when the orange iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max certainly brought a new level of brightness to the Pro series, but I’m quite keen on the burgundy even so.

Apple has provided some detail about the sustainability of these new models. iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max have 40 percent recycled content overall including 85 percent recycled aluminum in the enclosure.
