Apple has unveiled the flagship iPhone 18 Pro smartphone, though it appears we’re not yet getting the standard iPhone 18 – that looks to be set for Spring 2027.
There are some new camera features plus a more densely packed 6 core A20 Pro chip with dual neural engines and 7 core graphics alongside a new vapor chamber for even better cooling. They’ll also feature iOS 27 out of the box.
The new chip enables up to 40 percent performances gain over the previous generation according to Apple.
As with the last two generations of Pro and Pro Max, the iPhone 18 Pro is 6.3in, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max is 6.9in. The design is unchanged from the 17 Pro and Pro Max. This year’s highlight color is burgundy while it also comes in black, silver and ‘glacier’, which is a light blue.
The new 48 megapixel main camera now has a variable aperture. There are also new Pro controls to customize things further in the Camera app.
The battery life has also taken a step forward – Apple says that it’s possible to get 36 hours of video playback on the Pro and a huge 45 on the Pro Max. However, it also says this translates to a max of around 30 hours of real-world use, so that’s doing all the stuff we all do every day.
Wired charging has also received a power-up, with up to 50% charge possible in 15 minutes.
Interestingly, both models feature a smaller Dynamic Island as well and presumably that will also come to the iPhone 18 when it reportedly is revealed in the Spring.
iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 and iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at $1,299. Pre-orders for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max begin Saturday, September 12 and the release date is Friday, September 18.
