Apple’s upcoming phone releases are always ones to watch, and the iPhone 18 series will be no different. Yes, it’s finally time for the foldable iPhone to appear, which is set to appear alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. The big rumor is that the standard iPhone 18 will be delayed until the spring, launching alongside the iPhone 18e potentially.
On Wednesday 9 September, Apple will host its ‘Suprise and shine ‘ (yes that’s the tagline) event. While the tech giant hasn’t confirmed this is where new iPhones will launch, Apple’s September event always debuts phones – so we can be certain this will happen again. The event is a day later than we had expected – on a Wednesday not a Tuesday.
The event will kick off at 6pm BST/1pm EST/10am PST, and will be available to stream on YouTube and the Apple TV app. There will be a live event for invited members of the press and other guests to attend.
So what can we expect this time around?
As we said earlier, multiple reports suggest that Apple will look to break its regular yearly cycle of iPhone launches as smartphone development slows. Rumors suggest that the standard iPhone 18 will launch in Spring 2027 instead alongside the iPhone 18e.
So it’s a premium-only lineup this year, with the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max in September alongside a foldable iPhone called the iPhone Fold or iPhone Ultra. There is now too much noise for this not to happen. The foldable iPhone has been long-rumored but would be a big departure for Apple. However, there is too much smoke around the rumor now.
We’re also expecting new AirPods to be revealed – potentially with cameras so they can ‘see’ objects and be used alongside the reworked Siri assistant.
As usual, we’ll also get an Apple Watch refresh at the event. So that means an Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 at the very least. I’d expect the Ultra 4 announcement to major on battery life and as usual fitness will be at the heart of what Apple talks about for both watches. The Watch Series 12 appears to be an incremental update. We might also get a refreshed Watch SE.
It’s possible – although not at all confirmed – that there will be a super-thin iPhone Air 2 as well, although sales for the first version of that device have been suggested to have remained poor so don’t be surprised if it doesn’t appear.
