Looking for the best camera drone? You’re in the right place. Drones have utterly transformed how we capture the world around us. What once required a helicopter hire or an impossibly long selfie stick is now achievable with a gadget that fits in your rucksack – or even your pocket. These flying cameras have democratised aerial photography, enabling everyone from weekend adventurers to serious content creators to shoot cinematic footage from perspectives that were impossible just a decade ago. Today’s drones are hugely capable machines. The best models shoot 4K or better video at super smooth frame rates, capture hyper-detailed…
With the US tech industry scrambling to contain the fallout of Donald Trump’s latest assault against immigrants, Europe senses blood in the water. Trump blindsided American businesses late last week with a new $100,000-a-year fee on all H-1B visas, which are used to bring tens of thousands of skilled workers to the country’s tech sector. Giants like Amazon, Google, and Microsoft spent the weekend rushing existing H-1B visa holders back from abroad and urging them to cancel future travel plans. Rivals across the pond spent it mounting a charm offensive to lure disillusioned foreign workers their way.“The new $100k H-1B…
Samsung subsidiary Harman has completed its acquisition of Sound United, Masimo’s former audio business, adding a sizable expansion to Samsung’s audio brand portfolio. The $350 million deal was first announced in May, and brings Bowers & Wilkins, Denon, Marantz, Definitive Technology, Polk Audio, HEOS, Classé, and Boston Acoustics under the same roof as JBL, Harman Kardon, and other audio brands that Samsung acquired when it purchased Harman for $8 billion in 2016.”Sound United’s impressive roster of brands is rooted in a deep passion for sound, innovation, and commitment to quality that aligns with Harman’s own values,” Harman’s lifestyle lead, Dave…
Google is continuing to slowly tease its rumored plans to bring Android to PCs, merging it with ChromeOS, and now Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon is getting in on the action. He says he’s seen a version of the software, and that he “can’t wait to have one.”Amon was speaking on stage with Google’s head of platforms and devices, Rick Osterloh, during the opening keynote for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit, where later today the company will reveal its Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. Before that though, the two execs teased Google and Qualcomm’s future plans together, from automotive to consumer PCs.“In…
Swatch is back raiding its own archives – and this time it’s the ’80s and ’90s getting a glow-up (quite literally). The brand’s latest Neon Collection is a six-piece lineup of reimagined classics, each drenched in bold, fluorescent colour and dialled up with fresh details like slimmer cases, bigger proportions, and even SwatchPAY for contactless payments. Swatch has always leaned into the fun side of watchmaking, creating some of the best watches around if you’re on a budget, and the Neon Collection fits right in. The only trouble is, I’m stuck on which one I’d actually wear first. The most…
Logitech left solar-powered keyboards in the dark for over a decade, but it’s launching a new one today. Just like the K760 before it, its new $99.99 Signature Slim Solar Plus K980 can only be powered with light. There’s no USB port or swappable batteries. Instead, it features a cell that can convert solar or artificial light — 200 lux at minimum — into power to charge its battery, which the company says will last for up to 10 years. Once fully charged, the company says the K980 can be used in complete darkness for up to four months.I asked…
Desk declutterers can finally throw away their keyboard’s USB-C cable for good: Logitech has just unleashed a fully solar-powered speller, which promises to be efficient enough that you never need to plug it in. The Signature Slim Solar+ K980 doesn’t skimp out on Logitech’s familiar features, either, like multi-device switching and customisable shortcut keys. A strip of LightCharge solar panels at the top of the ‘board can convert both sunlight and indoor lighting to electricity, meaning the Signature Slim Solar+ K980’s Bluetooth connection is perpetually powered. It’ll even last for four months in total darkness, meaning residents of Svalbard, Norway…
My review is imminent, but I’m already a huge fan of Bowers & Wilkins’ newly-announced range-topping noise-cancelling headphones, the PX8 S2. Now, if you’re thinking that Bowers’ have only just released a pair of high-end headphones you’d be right. Earlier this year the PX7 series got their third iteration, the $399/£399 PX7 S3. And in a word, they were brilliant, with a five-star review and our top Editor’s Choice logo. At the time Sony’s WH-1000XM6 were imminent and Bowers had already announced that the $799/£629 PX8 S2 were coming at some point this year to join the lineup too. That…
The AI browser wars are heating up. Google has Gemini in Chrome, Perplexity is building its Comet AI browser, and The Browser Company just got acquired by Atlassian for $610 million. Now, Microsoft wants to be part of the AI browser conversation.I sat down with Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman today to talk about the future of Edge, and why Microsoft is betting on its experimental Copilot Mode that controls your tabs and makes restaurant bookings.Suleyman says Microsoft’s path is to evolve the browser and AI tools it has today — turning Edge into something AI can control directly. “I…
Though technology has always played an important role in the Alien franchise, FX’s Alien: Earth series is the first chapter to really dig into the inner workings of the tech companies responsible for unleashing xenomorphs onto humanity. To corporations like Weyland-Yutani and its competitors, the show’s aliens present an opportunity to develop products that could boost their stock valuations to astronomical new heights. But to show us how powerful these companies already are, Alien: Earth spends a lot of time focusing on the tech that made them rich — things like futuristic guns, space ships, androids, and tablets.Because Alien: Earth…
Here are some pictures showing just what those scratches look like under a digital microscope:iFixit talked to David Niebuhr, an engineer and professor of mechanical engineering, who has an explanation for why scratches around the iPhone 17 Pro’s camera plateau stick out so much with spalling damage that didn’t appear in tests of other areas. According to Niebuhr, the problem is the sharp edge of the camera bump where the anodization process isn’t as even, as he says, “Apple could have prevented this by making a more gradual curve and avoiding a relatively sharp corner.”iFixit adds that unless you put…
