Microsoft is working on a new Windows 11 Start menu design that’s bigger and more customizable than what exists today. Windows watcher phantomofearth discovered the new design in recent builds of Windows 11, where the updated Start menu has a larger layout and finally lets you disable the recommended feed of files and apps. The recommended feed had been a major pain point for Windows 11 users who upgraded from Windows 10, because it takes up a lot of space on the Start menu, and not everyone needs to see their recent files and apps. Microsoft’s new Start menu design now…

Meta is broadening Instagram restrictions that prevent minors from being exposed to inappropriate contact and content, bringing those protections to Facebook and Messenger and adding new limits for teenage Instagram users. Facebook and Messenger Teen Accounts are rolling out in the US, UK, Australia, and Canada starting today, with other regions coming “soon,” according to Meta. The company hasn’t specified which protections will be applied, but if it matches Instagram’s Teen Account rollout then changes will automatically apply to new and existing accounts for users under the age of 18. Older teens can disable these protections, but those under 16…

If sunnier skies and warmer weather have encouraged you to blow the dust off your cycling gear, Wahoo’s two new bike computers might be the last bit of encouragement you need to start racking up the miles. The Elemnt Roam 3 and Elemnt Bolt 3 are due to land next month, completing the line-up under the resistance-measuring Elemnt Ace flagship – and Wahoo has a company-first smart bike light in the works too. The Elemnt Roam should fill the bike computer sweet spot for the majority of riders. It might skip out on the Ace’s wind resistance measurements (which are…

When you’re on the look-out for a set of the top headphones, things can get pretty pricey if you want the best. Open-back headphones are revered as some of the best, but often come with a price tag to match. So I’m really glad to see Audio Technica’s new ATH-R30x open-backs, which might be the most affordable that I’ve seen. For less than £100, we’re talking about professional-grade performance without the usual soul-crushing price tag that comes with “reference quality” stamped on the box. Designed with content creators and home studio dabblers in mind, the ATH-R30x open-backs look to be a no-nonsense…

As the dust settles on last week’s grand Nintendo Switch 2 reveal, fans of go-karting plumbers and tie-wearing gorillas can really start to get excited about the next generation of gaming on The Big N’s upcoming console. I am emphatically one of those people, but as I watched the Switch 2 Direct and studied the console’s spec sheet (well, the specs Nintendo has elected to give us so far), I started to wonder if my Switch habits are going to change when the new hardware arrives in June.  Let me explain. When I got my first-generation Switch at launch, I…

I review a lot of headphones, but one of my favorites from the last year are now at a great price. You’re no doubt familiar with the extremely popular AirPods, but Apple makes a lot more headphones. My pick for Apple’s best over-ear headphones isn’t AirPods Max, but rather the Beats Studio Pro. This cheaper pair of headphones were launched in 2023 – two years after the AirPods Max. What’s more, they’re basically the same as AirPods Max inside – even capable of wired lossless audio, which AirPods Max aren’t. And thanks to a surprise Amazon sale on Apple gear, they’re more of…

Lego’s birthplace of Billund in Denmark has been home to Lego House for quite a few years now, a showcase for the brand’s history and a place for play. There are an estimated 25 million Lego bricks in the building including the best sets, so there’s plenty going on. But it’s the latest attraction that’s convinced me to go visit – where you can take part in Lego Masters-style challenges yourself. This new hands-on experience opens 17 September. It sounds like it was built specifically to tempt fans into making the pilgrimage. It’s the biggest update Lego House has had…

In Meta’s press release, the company highlighted Maverick’s ELO score of 1417, which placed it above OpenAI’s 4o and just under Gemini 2.5 Pro.
