Of all the many ways Microsoft could mark its 50th anniversary, I wasn’t expecting the software maker to launch a magazine. “It’s our answer to a timely question: How do we earn trust and hold attention in an age of scroll and skim? How do we create Signal in a world of noise?” asks Frank Shaw, Microsoft’s chief communications officer.Microsoft’s response to a world of people doomscrolling on X and TikTok is a print magazine that you can thumb through in peace and quiet. The first issue of Signal is 120 pages with a focus on AI, both as a…

Donald Trump and Elon Musk, two of the most media-addled personalities of our time, are publicly torching their relationship by posting on the public social media networks they each respectively own. I have seen theories that this is kayfabe, and I don’t buy it. Trump and Musk have publicly shit-talked people, including each other, before turning around and working with them. But this is real; threats are being made. I’m just not sure how serious it is.“Elon and I had a great relationship. I don’t know if we will anymore.”Let’s back up. Starting last week, Musk began making escalating angry…

It’s only taken forever, but the MoonSwatch is finally up for grabs online in the UK. No more visiting your local Swatch store, hoping they’ll have the model you want in stock. No more asking your aunt in Barcelona to pick one up. Now, you just click, pay, and wait for the postman. This move has been a long time coming, especially after Swatch started selling the MoonSwatch online in the US and China back in September. It really is great news for people who want a MoonSwatch (which, in our opinion, is one of the best watches you can…

X has updated its developer agreement to add a new restriction on using posts on the platform to train AI. The updated policy, spotted earlier by TechCrunch, says developers can’t use content from X or its API to “fine-tune or train a foundation or frontier model.”Though X’s developer agreement now bars companies from training AI on its content, its privacy policy still states that third-party “collaborators” can train AI models on the site’s data unless users opt out. X also feeds user data into its AI model, Grok, for training. Read the full article here

Midea is recalling around 1.7 million of its U and U Plus window air conditioners sold in the US, plus another 45,900 sold in Canada. The air conditioners launched in 2020 with a unique U-shaped design that allowed windows to close with the unit installed, reducing the amount of noise heard while they were running. But the design can sometimes prevent water from draining quickly enough resulting in mold growth that “poses risks of respiratory issues or other infections to some consumers,” according to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (USCPSC).The USPSC says it’s aware of “at least 152 reports…

There will be a lot of Nintendo Switch 2 consoles leaving their boxes today after certainly weeks and probably months of cardboard imprisonment. But there’s one thing that Nintendo has had to tell new owners that they should not do as part of the small print. The Switch 2 screen has a layer of film over it – and you must not take it off. In the manual, Nintendo tells users not to take off the layer of film – it’s there for protection in case the display is fully smashed (hopefully by accident). It prevents shards of glass from…

It’s nearly time for Glastonbury 2025 and mobile network Vodafone has revealed its updated Glastonbury phone app (available for iOS and Android) which is obviously a must-have if you’re going to the festival. The app includes a few new features, but crucially there’s one that’s going to be a bit of a gamechanger for groups split across the vast 900 acre site. You’re now able to live share your location with your friends, which is a huge improvement. OK, so apps like Apple’s FindMy can do that already of course, but speaking from experience this is going to be very…
