Christopher Ward’s new Sealander Chronograph brings back a watch the brand almost gave up on

Christopher Ward has a new chronograph watch. It’s called the Sealander Chronograph, and it’s kind of a big deal.

Why? Because it’s the brand’s first main range mechanical chronograph in six years.

It slots into the newly refreshed Sealander collection, and it brings a proper 12-hour timing function with it, housed in a new 41mm Light-catcher case.

Christopher Ward clearly loves chronographs. Products Director Jörg Bader points to cult favourites like the C9 Single Pusher and the ceramic C1000 Typhoon as proof, but love doesn’t always pay the bills, and chronographs haven’t sold well enough to justify a spot in the main range since 2020.

But that’s finally changed, and the brand says the new Sealander design language let it rethink the complication entirely, keeping the character enthusiasts want while making it easier to live with day to day.

The case is a highlight, it’s polished chamfers run along each lug, and there’s the same screw-down crown as the Sealander Automatic and GMT.

The pushers are brushed cuboids with polished edges, and Christopher Ward says they offer 1.7mm of genuinely satisfying travel.

The dial is where things get interesting – it’s multi-layered, with recessed black subdials that have a heavy grain texture. Polished numerals sit inside them, and the hands are filled with Super-LumiNova for a cool blue glow at night.

You get running seconds at nine, elapsed hours at six, and elapsed minutes at three. It’s simple to read, which is exactly what a chronograph should be.

Colour-wise, there’s Black, White, Sky Blue, Pink and Pistachio, all paired with the black subdials. COO Sarah Baumann says the brand wanted softer, more wearable tones rather than loud, race-inspired colours. I think they look great, and would work perfectly in a collection with the Sealander Automatic and GMT watches.

A matt black ceramic bezel wraps around the dial, complete with a tachymeter scale for measuring speed.

Under the hood is a no-date version of Sellita’s SW510, based on the tried-and-tested Valjoux 7750 architecture. You get 62 hours of power reserve, a 4Hz beat rate, and a semi-skeletonised custom rotor.

It also uses iLink, Christopher Ward’s tool-free bracelet system, making it the third watch to get it since launch. It’s a genuinely useful feature that lets you adjust your bracelet with no tools.

It’s also available on a White, Black, Blue or Orange strap.

The Sealander Chronograph costs US$2625 / £1895 on the rubber strap, or US$2765 / £1995 on the Bader bracelet with iLink.

It’s available now on Christopher Ward’s website.
