Govee’s smart ceiling light is the next best thing to installing a skylight

If you’ve watched as much Grand Designs as I have, a skylight will be near the top of your home renovation wish list – but what if you’ve not got the funds to bring in the builders, or live in a flat (and don’t have very, very understanding neighbours)? Govee’s new smart lights are a close second, bringing true-to-life sky illumination to any ceiling you like.

Announced ahead of CES 2026, the Sky Ceiling Light uses custom LEDs with a more precise colour spectrum, to realistically transition between bright daytime blues and warm sunset oranges. More LEDs are then mounted around the edge of the sizeable 21in circular installation, lighting up your ceiling as well as whatever’s directly underneath.

It’ll easily illuminate an entire room, being rated for 5200 lumens at a 6500K colour temperature, and plays nicely with all of Govee’s usual smart home integrations – which now includes Samsung SmartThings for the first time, in addition to the more universal Matter standard.

As a result of all that tech, the Sky Ceiling Light weighs a considerable 8.2kg, and needs plugging into mains power – so maybe don’t take your builder off speed dial just yet.

Govee Celling Light Ultra CES 2026

If you want your ceiling to be more art installation than sky stand-in, the Ceiling Light Ultra could fit the bill. It’s packing over six hundred controllable LEDs, which can be programmed into an eight-layer digital canvas for animations, GIFs and lighting effects. It’s about as close as you can get to mounting a TV on the ceiling.

Brightness gets very close to the Sky Ceiling Light at 5000 lumens, or enough to light a space some 200–300 ft². The 2700K-6500K white range lets it work as a regular ceiling light when you don’t need the flashier features.

Govee is also gearing up to refresh its AI Lighting Bot, letting you give the companion app simple descriptions and have them turn into creative light effects. It should land in the app later this year for graphic lights.

The firm is also still plugging away with more traditional smart lights. New for 2026, the Floor Lamp 3 combines a freestanding light strip with an illuminated base, and is first with Govee’s 16-bit LuminBlend+ LEDs. They’ve got the widest colour temperature of any smart lamp (1000K-100,000K) and are good for over 1 trillion different colour combinations.

The Floor Lamp 3 will be one of the first smart lights with Govee’s new DaySync system, which automatically adjusts colours and effects based on the time of day. Think cooler whites during the day to aid productivity, and warmer ones in the evening while you wind down.

All three new models are set to arrive later this year, with the US first in line. Pricing and exact availability are still TBC.
