Bose has overhauled its mainstream noise-cancelling headphones offering for 2026, bringing fresh new looks, smarter ANC and immersive listening inherited from the firm’s flagship over-ears. The QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen) also add two-way USB-C audio and a generously long battery life.
This is a thoroughly modern redesign, with pill-shaped ear cups that are stuffed with more plush synthetic leather cushioning than the outgoing pair. A continuously adjustable sliding headband better follows the contour of your head, which should mean clamping force isn’t quite so vice-like – but still secure enough to keep the cans in place while on the move.
It lands in a bunch of colours options, including some rather flashy limited edition hues. Each gets a two-tone colour palette sees flashes of colour inside the ear cups.
The big news is that the QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen) are the first in its class to get TrueSpatial tech, which Bose usually reserve for top-tier models like the Quietcomfort Ultra Headphones Gen 2. The spatial upmix lets you pick between three modes that replicate listening to a 2.0-channel speaker system: Still Mode locks each side in place, Motion uses head tracking to match your movements, and Cinema gives more prominence to background effects for video content. I was a big fan when I tried the Ultra Headphones Gen 2 last year, so it’s great to see it appearing on a (slightly) more affordable pair.
Noise cancellation has also seen a subtle but welcome improvement. The six microphone system now adapts to gaps in the ear cup seal for glasses wearers, while the Aware mode’s improved ActiveSense adaptive ANC will cope much better with sudden noise spikes.
Elsewhere the updated model adds two-way USB-C audio, for lossless 24bit/48kHz wired listening and clearer voice input with video call apps like Zoom or Microsoft Teams. Even better, you can use them while simultaneously topping up the battery. There’s also a USB-C to 3.5 mm cable included for analogue playback, which could be handy for frequent flyers. Wireless listening is via Bluetooth 5.4, with Multipoint connectivity and Google Fast Pair.
Bose reckons the battery is good enough for up to 24 hours of ANC-on listening, or as much as 18 with immersive audio. A 15 minute refuel should add up to two and a half hours of extra playback.
The Bose QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen) is up for pre-order today, directly from the Bose website, and will start shipping on August 13. You’ll be able to bag one in Black, White Smoke, or the limited-run Eucalyptus Green, Dewdrop Mint and Rosewood Mauve colours for $359/£300/€350.
