Google has confirmed the interoperability between Quick Share and Apple’s AirDrop is starting to expand beyond the Pixel 10 series of handsets.

Android Authority brings word from Google directly that the interoperability is going Android-wide in 2026. Until now all we knew was Google is planning to bring the feature to older Pixel phones.

Eric Kay, Vice President of Engineering for the Android platform says: “Last year, we launched AirDrop interoperability. In 2026, we’re going to be expanding it to a lot more devices.”

“We spent a lot of time and energy to make sure that we could build something that was compatible not only with iPhone but iPads and MacBooks. Now that we’ve proven it out, we’re working with our partners to expand it into the rest of the ecosystem, and you should see some exciting announcements coming very soon.”

There’s no news about which devices are first in-line for the expansion, which will make it easier to quickly transfer files between devices in a single tap.

In November 2025, Google announced: “Today, we’re introducing a way for Quick Share to work with AirDrop. This makes file transfer easier between iPhones and Android devices, and starts rolling out today to the Pixel 10 family. We built this with security at its core, protecting your data with strong safeguards that were tested by independent security experts. It’s just one more way we’re bringing better compatibility that people are asking for between operating systems, following our work on RCS and unknown tracker alerts.”

Back then Google teased that more Android devices would be receiving the feature eventually and that time appears to be now. We’ll keep you posted when it lands on third-party Android devices.
