Tiffany & Co. has launched a second limited-edition version of its Tiffany Timer chronograph watch. It’s called the Tiffany Timer Titanium Platinum and just 100 will be made.
It follows the first Timer, a platinum piece limited to 60 units, launched earlier this year and featuring a (true) Tiffany Blue dial. Together, they mark 160 years since Tiffany’s first chronograph in 1866.
I’ll admit it – I didn’t expect to like a Tiffany & Co. watch this much. Usually, they lean a little too heavily into jewellery-style pieces for my tastes.
The new watch pairs a satin-brushed titanium case with a platinum bezel. It’s 40mm across, with curved chronograph pushers that double as crown guards.
Inside sits a customised Zenith El Primero 400. That’s a proper pedigree movement, integrated and column-wheel controlled, with a 50-hour power reserve.
The dial is dark blue with sunray finishing, with Tiffany Blue turning up on the sub-dial markers, the chronograph track, and the date window. It’s a little more subtle than the previous model.
Flip it over and you’ll find the real star of the show. The sapphire caseback reveals a hand-sculpted bird motif, taken straight from Jean Schlumberger’s Bird on a Rock brooch. It’s carved from solid 18k yellow gold, just 1.4cm wide, and sits on the open-worked winding rotor.
That’s the bit I really like, it’s what seperates this Tiffany watch from any other watch brand.
It’s a nice reminder that Tiffany’s watchmaking story didn’t start yesterday. Charles Lewis Tiffany began selling watches in 1847, and the house opened its own Swiss assembly workshop in 1868.
There’s 10 ATM water resistance, a navy alligator strap, a steel-and-titanium folding clasp, and a five-year international warranty. Each caseback is engraved “Limited edition of 100.”
