Microsoft has confirmed the next Xbox Developer Direct showcase for later this month, with the promise of our first proper look at some seriously big hitting first-party Xbox games.

The January 22 live stream will feature the first “in depth look” at the next Fable RPG, along with a “deep dive” and the “very first look at gameplay” from Forza Horizon 6. Both of these games are from UK-based studio Playground games and both are expected to go on sale in 2026.

Microsoft is also planning on showing off the “first in-depth look” at Beast of Reincarnation – the one-dog action RPG from Game Fream that was previously revealed at the same event last year.

As for Fable, Microsoft promises Playground “will unveil the magic and mischief that awaits players in this fresh new beginning for the franchise, including a first look at some stunning new gameplay.”

The franchise reboot will showcase “the core themes of Fable will all be there – choice, consequence, drama, action, British humour and (of course) chickens, all reimagined for existing fans and new players alike.”

Forza Horizon 6 takes the series from the streets of Mexico in the fifth instalment, all the way to Japan, which promises some incredible street-based racing and off-roading.

“The segment will deep-dive into a very first look at gameplay, including reveals of new features – and how Japan comes to life in this stunning new instalment,” Microsoft says.

All of this sounds like Microsoft has a decent plan to revive the Xbox first-party games line-up in 2026. So, perhaps a reason for Xbox gamers to be excited, until the PS5 release is announced a few months from now.

Xbox Developer Direct streams on Thursday January 22 at 10am Pacific / 6pm UK time.
