If you’ve been holding out for a newer Apple Vision Pro headset to go alongside a new iPhone, you’re likely to be disappointed. Sorry.
According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo on X, Apple has shelved plans for both a second-generation Vision Pro, and the long-rumoured Vision Air. Kuo claims that Apple hardware chief John Ternus signed off on the changes as part of a major overhaul of the company’s future XR roadmap.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has also disputed parts of that picture, however, previously reporting that Apple still has a Vision Pro successor in testing, even if the company appears to be focusing on smart glasses in the years ahead.
Kuo, meanwhile, believes that Apple’s future efforts will instead focus on two smart glasses – a Meta Ray-Ban rival expected in 2027 and a more advanced augmented reality device featuring optical waveguide displays that could arrive around 2029.
It’s impossible to verify as things stand, but it appears to line up. Apple has never publicly confirmed a Vision Pro 2 or Vision Air project – though that’s not to say there’ll never be another one in future.
For now, our fix of new Apple hardware will have to be delivered in the form of the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro, and folding iPhone Ultra. There’s also WWDC 2026 kicking off, with plenty of iOS goodies for Apple fans to look forward to.
