Marshall’s jazzy new speaker lasts twice as long as the old one

Marshall has unveiled the Stockwell III, the first major update to its portable Bluetooth speaker range since 2019. The new model promises more than 40 hours of battery life, upgraded acoustics, and a more repairable design aimed at extending its lifespan.

The headline upgrade is battery life – Marshall claims that the Stockwell III can now deliver more than 40 hours of wireless playback – double the endurance of its predecessor – which should make it one of the longest-lasting portable speakers in its class.

Marshall says that the speaker’s audio has been upgraded too. The Stockwell III uses the company’s True Stereophonic tech, which is designed to spread sound in all directions rather than creating a single sweet spot. Dynamic Loudness is also onboard, automatically adjusting bass, mids, and treble as volume levels change to help maintain balance and detail whether you’re listening quietly, or cranking things up for a garden rave.

Visually, Marshall hasn’t strayed far from a winning formula. The speaker keeps its vertical design, metal grilles, brass controls, and guitar-inspired carry strap, though the control panel has been redesigned with quicker access to presets and easier track navigation. The cream finish in particular looks likely to turn a few heads.

The new model should be more at home outdoors, too. Marshall has upgraded the Stockwell III to an IP55 rating for dust and water resistance, while the USB-C port doubles as a power bank for topping up your phone when you’re out and about.

Sustainability is on point as well. The battery, carry strap, silicone sleeve, and both front and rear grilles can all be replaced individually, potentially extending the speaker’s lifespan long after most portable Bluetooth speakers would have been discarded. Marshall also says that recycled materials account for 27 per cent of the speaker’s weight, excluding accessories and packaging, as part of a broader push towards longer-lasting products.

Sound good? The Marshall Stockwell III Bluetooth speaker will be available in either a Black and Brass, or Cream finish from 18 August for £199.99, with registrations opening on 9 June.
