All the talk is about the MacBook Pro Ultra – complete with a rumoured touchscreen OLED display – but Apple could be about to give the base MacBook Pro laptop a significant revamp too.
According to Bloomberg sources, the base model is about to get a “revamp” that’s set to launch during the first half of next year. The erstwhile Apple watcher Mark Gurman believes the design update will be inspired by what Apple has in store for its touch-optimised laptop.
What could that mean? Well, given the company is expected to add a Dynamic Island-style pill to the MacBook Pro Ultra, we may see that approach come to the base model too. Other than that, it’s unclear.
Apple is already planning an incremental M6-based update later this year, according to the report, but will move quickly onto the M7 version (which features optimisations for AI workloads) thereafter. That makes the M6 version sound like one to skip.
Bloomberg also adds that Apple is working on two new iPad Pro models that’ll continue to boast 11-inch and 13-inch screens and will feature incremental chipset-based improvements.
Overall, these sound like the least exciting launches Apple has in prospect for the next year or so. The iPhone Ultra with a foldable display sounds like the headliner, the aforementioned MacBook Ultra promises to make new ground for Apple too. The company is believed to be working on a pair of AirPods Pro earbuds with cameras to facilitate environmental AI usage.
Then we’ve got the long-awaited ‘HomePad’ smart display paving the way for a host of in-home products that may include a table top device with a robotic arm. Apple is also working on a pair of smart AR glasses that it has, for a number of years, considered to be the long term replacement for the iPhone.
