Panerai’s Submersible finally gets a metal bracelet, and it’s about time

Panerai has just unveiled a new Submersible, and it’s a proper milestone for the watch collection. The Submersible PAM01756 is the first-ever 44mm Submersible to come on a metal bracelet. Up until now, that iconic case size has only ever been paired with rubber or fabric straps.

It’s powered by the in-house P.980 calibre, an automatic movement with a healthy three-day power reserve.

The case itself is made from AISI 316LVM stainless steel, chosen for its corrosion resistance. Wrapped around it is a blue ceramic bezel, a material that’s brilliant at shrugging off scratches.

There’s no date window on this one, the pre-1998 Panerai references skipped the date entirely, so this is a throwback to those vintage references.

The dial is black and sun-brushed, with a radiating pattern that catches the light nicely as you move your wrist.

White Super-LumiNova on the hands and markers means it should be just as legible in the dark, glowing green on the hour markers and blue on the minute hand and bezel dot.

Small seconds sit at 9 o’clock, finished with a wavy “azurage” engraving. It’s a small flourish, but it adds some texture to what could otherwise be quite a stark dial.

Water resistance comes in at 500 metres, and Panerai tests every unit well beyond that rating before it leaves the factory. The case back is stainless steel too, engraved with the Italian Navy’s old “pig” torpedo submersible – another link back to the brand’s diving pedigree.

The real headline feature for me, though, is the bracelet’s Quick Length Adjustment. It lets you extend the bracelet by 2mm on each side without tools or removing links, which should make a real difference on a hot day or after a long flight.

The watch is available now on Panerai’s website, costing $13,200 in the US and £11,000 in the UK.
