H. Moser & Cie’s latest Alpine collab swaps titanium for scratch-proof ceramic

H. Moser & Cie. and Alpine have just dropped their third watch together, and this time, we’ve got a new case material.

The Streamliner Tourbillon Skeleton Ceramic Alpine Limited Edition uses, as the name suggests, an anthracite grey ceramic case, contrasted with blue bridges and a blue main plate, echoing the Alpine team’s colours.

I love this new model. Titanium is the usual go-to for sports watches because it’s tough, technical and lightweight, but ceramic does the same job, and it won’t scratch, oxidise, or develop a patina over time. It stays exactly as it left the factory.

I went to Silverstone with Alpine and H. Moser earlier this year and saw this partnership firsthand. It was fascinating watching how closely the two brands actually work together, rather than it just being a branding exercise.

Alpine’s own people talk about precision and innovation the same way the watchmaker does. As Luca Mazzocco, Alpine Head of Partner Experience put it to me, while walking me through the team’s composites lab, it’s “a beautiful story of innovation and passion” because when the 3D printing first arrived, “we didn’t really know what to do with this technology.”

That innovative technology eventually allowed Alpine (then Renault) to quickly create prototypes, and eventually complex components impossible to make any other way, helping them win the Championships in 2005 and 2006.

That obsession with tiny margins runs through everything at Alpine. As Steve Nielsen, Managing Director at Alpine F1, explained, “Five kilos is a tenth and a half [of a second a lap] in Austria”, which can be the difference between getting into Q3 or not. That’s the same logic Moser applies to a movement – shaving off fractions until nothing more can be removed.

Even off the track, that mindset doesn’t switch off. Nielsen admitted his obsession with time follows them home, “My wife gets very upset with me because if we book a restaurant for seven o’clock, I want to be there at ten to. I can’t let go.” It’s a small thing, but it says a lot about the culture behind this watch, timing, and Formula 1 in general.

This is the third watch to come out of the Moser and Alpine partnership, which kicked off in 2024. The first was the Streamliner Cylindrical Tourbillon Skeleton Alpine Limited Edition, followed by the Streamliner Alpine Drivers Edition and Streamliner Alpine Mechanics Edition.

Each one has had input from the BWT Alpine Formula One team, and this new piece keeps the fully skeletonised dial.

The case measures 40mm across, with a mix of polished and satin finishes. It’s topped with a domed sapphire crystal, with a see-through sapphire case-back on the reverse.

Inside sits the HMC 814 Manufacture calibre. It’s fully skeletonised, self-winding, and packs 167 components into a 32mm frame.

The star of the show is the tourbillon at 6 o’clock. It’s a one-minute flying tourbillon with a double hairspring, both designed and made in-house. That setup is meant to improve precision by keeping the watch steadier as the springs expand and contract.

You also get a gold, fully skeletonised oscillating weight, plus diamond bevelling on the bridges.

For legibility, the indices and hands use Globolight, a material combining ceramic with Super-LumiNova.

The watch comes on an integrated blue Alcantara strap, fastened with a black DLC-treated titanium pin buckle.

Power reserve sits at a minimum of 72 hours, and it’s water-resistant to 12 ATM.

Only 100 pieces of the Streamliner Tourbillon Skeleton Ceramic Alpine Limited Edition will be made. It’s priced at CHF 79,000 (approx. US$97,000 / £72,000).
