Googlebook laptops will be an RTX gaming powerhouse after all thanks to a coming app

The new breed of Googlebook laptops will receive native support for the Nvidia GeForce NOW cloud gaming platform, which makes it possible to stream a huge library of high-end PC games.

The first Googlebooks from third-party OEMs are set to go on sale next month and Nvidia is promising to furnish gamers with proper GeForce NOW support by the end of the year.

Given the Googlebook platform doesn’t make room for a dedicated discreet graphics processors capable of handling the top games, the inclusion of GeForce NOW adds a tantalising use case for those considering a Googlebook purchase in the next few months.

The announcement will effectively bring Nvidia RTX graphics performance to Googlebook models made by the likes of Acer, Asus, Dell, HP and Lenovo. That’s because the cloud-based service leverages GPUs as powerful as the the GeForce RTX 5080 hardware over the cloud. Gamers will be able to connect their existing PC game library and stream over 4,500 games with more being added all the time.

“As Googlebooks begin rolling out this fall, GeForce NOW support will bring the cloud gaming library to the new laptop category, making it possible to stream the latest PC games with GeForce RTX-powered performance — and without local installs,” Nvidia wrote in a blog post today.

Last week, during the full unveiling of the Googlebooks platform, Google said new buyers would get access to a 12-month paid GeForce NOW subscription. Prior to the launch of a full GeForce NOW app for Googlebook laptops, users will be able to access the service via the browser version on Chrome and Firefox. However, the native app should enable games to access the best resolutions and frame rates.
