Apple’s 20th anniversary iPhone model is expected to make waves in 2027, with a departure from a somewhat tired design language. Now we might have a little more insight into the company’s plans.
The well-known leaker Ice Universe (via wccftech) says Apple will debut a Liquid Glass Display, which takes inspiration from the software feature introduced within iOS 26 last autumn.
Essentially, it’ll manifest as a subtle curve in all edges of the display, with the use of a quad curved panel. The leaker says the Liquid Glass display would leverage the UI elements to create a “carefully engineered visual illusion” that could make the bezel almost disappear entirely.
The leaker says this would differ greatly from the curved displays that Android manufacturers like Samsung have chosen in the past, which have been much more pronounced and used to display information.
The leaker says: “What truly creates the visual impact may be a sophisticated combination of optical refraction, light guiding structures, and carefully engineered visual illusion.
“The end result could be a display where the bezel nearly disappears from sight, while edge viewing remains natural and undisturbed. It flows like liquid, yet stays as pure and transparent as glass.”
So, if you didn’t enjoy Liquid Glass as a UI tool, you mightn’t be thrilled to hear it might become a hardware-based feature too. However, it may also mean that iOS 26 and iOS 27 are simply setting the stage for the main event in 2027.
