Apple TV has bulked out its critically acclaimed suite of original content with a series of classic blockbusters from yesteryear that can be streamed by subscribers at no extra cost.

In a new ‘Great Movies Available Now on Apple TV’ section on the Apple TV app’s home page for iOS, macOS, tvOS and more, you’ll find around 20 offerings for viewers in the US, UK and Canada. The list I can see in the US includes a good mix of sci-fi, comedy, thriller and drama but also the greatest story ever committed to film – E.T. – The Extra Terrestrial. Don’t @ me, bros.

Spielberg’s epic tale capturing of the essence of childhood friendship, combined with the wonders of John Williams emotive soundtrack was the first time I realised a film could be more than just two hours of entertainment and could actually be a life-changing experience from which I’d never truly recover.

Anyway, the 20 movies Apple TV subscribers can now enjoy for free are as follows (in the US): The Martian, Arrival, The Bourne Identity, Looper, E.T. The Extra Terrestrial, The Proposal, I, Robot, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, 21 Jump Street, The Sixth Sense, Gone Girl, Zoolander, Zodiac, Charlies Angels, Titanic, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, A Beautiful Mind, The Aviator, and The Rookie.

Apple TV Free Movies

Apple has offered non-original movies from other studios on Apple TV in the past, but this was a short-lived initiative. It remains to be seen whether it’ll stick around for longer this time around. Apple may even add to the list or rotate films in and out on a monthly basis. We just don’t know.

Either way, it certainly adds some value to an Apple TV subscription and might dissuade you from cancelling, or convince you to subscribe! Regardless, do yourself a massive favour and revisit E.T. this weekend, you cintus suprimus!
