Apple is developing six ‘major new product categories’ right now, including the recently rumoured security camera, according to the erstwhile Cupertino watcher Mark Gurman.

In an appearance on the TBPN show this week, Gurman spoke of the products outside of the company’s usual remit that’ll continue the hardware diversification and lessen the reliance on the iPhone. We’ve head rumours concerning all of them at some point, but seeing them listed all together offers insight into the scale of Apple’s ambitions to enter uncharted territory.

Gurman said: “There are six major Apple products in development right now, six major new product categories.”

The list Gurman shared includes AirPods with AI skills, smart glasses, an AI-based wearable pendant. All three of which are likely to be very reliant on the new version of Siri that’s likely to be unveiled at WWDC 2026 in June and rolled out in September this year. The pendant has been rumoured as the ‘eyes and ears of the iPhone’ and is perhaps the most intriguing of the three.

The other three products have also been rumoured in recent months… the smart display (aka HomePad), and the tabletop robot with an arm to move the display to any angle. Lastly there’s a security camera, which has also been mooted in recent times.

As 9to5Mac points out in its reporting, a set of AI AirPods aren’t exactly a new product category as Gurman classifies them. They’re just AirPods with added AI.

However, the rest of the line up genuinely represents a device Apple has not made before. I’d have to say I’m most excited for the smart speaker x display akin to the Echo Show. How about you?

Gurman didn’t offer potential launch windows for these new product categories, but once the new Siri lands there’s far less impediment. Recent reports have suggested Apple has a new Apple TV as well as the smart display sitting in a warehouse ready to go.
