Google announced on Tuesday that the public preview of Fitbit’s AI personal health coach is rolling out to iOS users in the U.S. as well as both iOS and Android users in the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore. The update tests a major overhaul of Fitbit’s app, introducing a conversational interface with a Gemini-powered AI that interprets your latest results, creates custom routines and workouts based on users’ personal health goals, workout equipment, and training preferences. It initially launched in October, when it was only available in the US and only on Android devices. To try out the feature, users…
The physical Apple TV remote has a remarkable knack of finding its way between sofa cushions. It’s a slippery fish. And the iOS app version, well it’s ok in a pinch, but it’s hardly intuitive for effective streaming. Apple doesn’t have an official Mac app – which for my purposes would be far more efficient than the iPhone app – but this third party option looks like a bit of a godsend for whiling away the hours flipping between the apps as I write about tech. The third-party app is called ItsytV actually looks like it might be a superior…
We’ve seen some questions about our age assurance update and we want to share more clarity. We know how important these changes are to our community. Here’s what we want you to know:• Discord is not requiring everyone to complete a face scan or upload an ID to use Discord.• The vast majority of people can continue using Discord exactly as they do today, without ever being asked to confirm their age.You need to be an adult to access age-restricted experiences such as age-restricted servers and channels or to modify certain safety settings. Over the years, the true benefits of paying for music streaming services appear to have been outweighed by the consistent price increases. As Freemium users continue to benefit from the ability to shuffle their way through life and contend with a few ads, Premium subscribers have seen hike after hike with benefits not keeping pace – unless you’re into Joe Rogan podcasts and audiobooks. Spotify did add lossless streaming for Premium subscribers late last year, to be fair, but that arrived after a wait of about three years following the announcement. The price seemingly went up about 14 times in…
More than a week after Nancy Guthrie disappeared, the FBI has released footage from a Nest camera by Guthrie’s front door. FBI Director Kash Patel says on X that law enforcement has been working with “private sector partners” and that the video was “recovered from residual data located in backend systems.” Google spokesperson Patrick Seybold tells The Verge that the company is “assisting law enforcement with their investigations.”The FBI has released two videos and a few still images. In the first video, a masked individual with a backpack walks up to the camera and holds a glove in front of…
Apple’s plans to refresh its MacBook line-up are coming into view, according to the latest reporting on the company’s spring launch schedule. According to the erstwhile Apple watcher Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, the next generation MacBook Pro with M5 Pro and M5 Max could arrive “as early as the week of March 2.” That goes for the MacBook Air with the standard M5 chip too. Gurman writes: “The new MacBook Pros, meanwhile, are tied to the macOS 26.3 cycle that runs through March. The M4 versions of the high-end laptops remain in short supply, a telltale sign that new models…
The earliest backers of Sharge’s latest Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign can preorder the power bank for $149, while its full price is expected to be closer to $199 once delivery starts as early as May 2026. Inside the Shargeek 300 is a 24,000 mAh battery that can be fully recharged in 75 minutes using a 140W charger. As the name implies, the Shargeek 300’s total output is 300W which is shared across two USB-C ports, a USB-A port, and a barrel-style DC port. Both USB-C ports can output up to 140W letting you simultaneously charge two power-hungry laptops while a third device…
Facebook is rolling out new AI features that let you animate your profile picture and restyle Stories and Memories. You’ll also be able to add animated backgrounds to text posts to make them pop in the feed. With the animated profile pictures, you’ll be able to give a still photo motion with some preset types of animations, including “natural, party hat, confetti, wave, and heart,” Meta says. Meta suggests using a photo featuring a single person facing the camera with a visible face who isn’t holding anything. More animation options will be added “throughout the year.”To restyle Stories or Memories, you…
It’s fair to say that Apple’s Liquid Glass design language hasn’t exactly been a roaring success. I think it’s absolutely fine on larger screens in fairness – I’ve got used to it on macOS 26 Tahoe for example and it’s not too invasive on iPadOS 26 either. And it’s essentially a relief that the latest version of the iPad software has finally nailed some decent multitasking features. The windowing feature works well. But on the iPhone‘s smaller display, Liquid Glass is a different story for me and as I’ve said in reviews, some apps have become harder to use. It’s…
Microsoft wants to design more efficient data centers using materials that allow electricity to flow with zero resistance. If these new materials, called high-temperature superconductors, can make it to market, Microsoft thinks it could be a game changer for how data centers and the energy infrastructure they connect to are built.Tech companies are facing backlash over how much power generative AI demands, delays connecting to power grids that lack the infrastructure to meet those demands, and the impact construction of new data centers has on local residents. High-temperature superconductors (HTS) could potentially shrink the amount of space needed for a…
Today, I’m talking with Roland Busch, who is the CEO of Siemens.Siemens is one of those absolutely giant, extremely important, but fairly opaque companies we love to dig into on Decoder. At a very basic, reductive level, Siemens makes the hardware and software that allow other companies to run and automate their stuff. Everyone has seen the Siemens logo somewhere, whether it’s under the hood of their cars, stamped on control systems in fancy buildings, or scattered across factory floors. But since it’s not really a consumer-facing company, it’s hard to know what ties all these ideas together — and…
Discord is about to force some of the people who use its messaging app to make a choice: Use the platform with restricted features, or prove their age. It’s a move that platforms have been slowly approaching, but Discord’s teen-by-default rollout is a stronger clampdown that could offer a glimpse at an age-gated future on the web worldwide.Starting next month, users who don’t verify their age using a face scan or government ID will no longer be able to access age-restricted servers and channels, can’t speak in Discord’s “stage” channels, and will see filters for any content deemed graphic or…
