If you care about mechanical watches, hairsprings matter more than you might think. They’re the tiny coiled spirals at the heart of a movement, regulating time itself. And now, TAG Heuer reckons it’s cracked the next leap forward. Enter the TH-Carbonspring oscillator – a hairspring made not from traditional alloys or even the silicon embraced by the industry in recent decades, but from carbon. Developed entirely in-house at the TAG Heuer LAB after almost ten years of research, it’s a rethink of the most important component in mechanical watchmaking. Why should you care? Because it solves three big problems that…
IFA, the European tech trade show equivalent to CES in the US, is just around the corner. Companies are gearing up to showcase their latest innovations, bringing us the latest product announcements, feature demonstrations, and design concepts that will shape future consumer tech releases.IFA will open its doors between September 5th and 9th, but many of the biggest announcements will start dropping shortly before the show’s public opening. Samsung is the undisputed king of high-end Android tablets, but that doesn’t mean the firm has gotten complacent. It has brought two new models to this year’s IFA show, and made them more productivity-focused than ever. The Galaxy Tab S11 and Tab S11 Ultra also debut a tweaked S Pen stylus to keep creators happy, and arrive running the latest version of Android. Unlike last year, where the 14.6in Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra was paired with the 12.4in Galaxy Tab S10+, 2025 sees screen size shrink a bit. The vanilla Tab S11 arrives with an 11in display, which makes it…
Who needs legs? Eufy, Anker’s smart home brand, believes it has solved the problem of how a single robot vacuum can clean multiple floors in your home. Its new MarsWalker robot is equipped with four arms to carry a vacuum between levels, so you don’t have to lug it up the stairs yourself or buy a robot for each floor. However, you’ve now got two robots, so perhaps it’s not really solving that problem.Equipped with a drive-track system, the MarsWalker acts like a stairlift for your robot vacuum. The vacuum docks in the MarsWalker, which carries it to the next…
I’ve used a lot of robot vacuums. A lot. Too many, probably. And Anker sub-brand Eufy’s S1 Pro model is the best that I’ve ever tried. It vacuumed better than anything I’d ever tested, cleaned floors like it actually cared, and mopped floors like there was no tomorrow. Naturally, I didn’t think it needed a sequel. But here we are, and Eufy’s just dropped the S2, and it’s made me want to bin the old one immediately. It’s a huge upgrade with more than 3x the suction power of the original, plenty of new features, and even the ability to…
Belkin has announced new charging accessories at the IFA tech show in Berlin, Germany, including a wireless charging puck that doubles as a kickstand for your devices. The UltraCharge Magnetic Charger features a collapsible ring-shaped stand on the back that can either be used to prop up your phone, allowing you to stream hands-free content while it’s charging, or utilized like a magnetic phone grip that makes the device easier to hold. The UltraCharge uses the new Qi2.2 wireless standard, delivers up to 25W of power, and was designed with passive cooling technology for “optimal performance and battery protection,” according to…
Aukey has announced a new modular charging solution called the MagFusion Ark. It combines a base station featuring up to three Qi2.2 charging pads with spherical power banks that each have their own Qi2.2-compatible pads. The spheres support passthrough charging and can wirelessly charge another device while they’re on the base station, but they can also be removed and used as standalone wireless chargers powered by either their 6,700mAh battery or a USB-C port.Pricing will be announced closer to the MagFusion Ark’s release in Q1 of 2026, but it will be available in three different configurations: a bundle that includes…
If you ever doubted the “console wars” were over, here’s a new piece of data to consider: Helldivers 2, formerly console exclusive to Sony’s PS5, is currently the best-selling title on Xbox. In fact, it’s the first and third best-selling game, if you count its more premium edition, and it’s currently the ninth-most played game on the platform — mostly beaten by free-to-play games like Fortnite and Roblox but also Minecraft and GTA V.No, what’s surprising is that we now live in an era where companies like Sony and Microsoft no longer entirely see their hit games as a way…
It’s been a tumultuous summer for Scale AI: Meta took a multibillion-dollar stake in the company, Mark Zuckerberg hired Scale CEO Alexandr Wang and other top staff, and Scale laid off 14 percent of its workforce. Now the latest development is a lawsuit over corporate espionage in the AI industry. The AI data labeling company, which has provided training data to fuel many of the industry’s leading AI models, filed a lawsuit Wednesday against a former employee, Eugene Ling, and his current employer, Mercor, which is one of Scale’s key competitors.Scale alleged that Ling, who was its head of engagement management,…
This month’s Google Pixel drop includes a broader rollout of the company’s splashy UI revamp. Starting today, Google will bring its Material 3 Expressive design language to Pixel 6 devices and newer, in addition to the Pixel Tablet. In addition to this rollout, Google is bringing a bunch of new features to the Pixel Buds Pro 2, which it previewed during its Made by Google event last month. 16in laptops don’t get much slimmer or lighter than Acer’s newly-revealed Swift Air 16. The size zero ultraportable has been carved out of magnesium-aluminium alloy so it can tip the scales at less than a kilogram, yet has still found room inside for one of AMD’s Ryzen AI 300 series CPUs – meaning it won’t be short on performance. The Copilot+ PC is launching in Europe in November from £899/€999 (no word on a US release yet), seriously undercutting the 15in Apple MacBook Air on price – and showing it a thing or two about weight loss in the process.…
Switzerland launched an open-source model called Apertus on Monday as an alternative to proprietary models like OpenAI’s ChatGPT or Anthropic’s Claude, reports SWI as spotted by Engadget. The model’s source code, training data, model weights, and detailed development process are available on the AI model platform HuggingFace.Apertus, which is Latin for “open,” was designed to “set a new baseline for trustworthy and globally relevant open models,” according to the developers. The model was trained on over 1,800 languages and comes in two sizes with either 8 billion or 70 billion parameters. Apertus is comparable to the 2024 Llama 3 model…
