The selfie stick is a pretty simple invention, but the DJI Osmo Mobile 8P takes the same basic concept and throws everything but the kitchen sink at it.
With a telescopic handle that also has a built-in tripod, you’ll never have to hand your phone over to a tourist and hope for the best again, while the detachable remote has its own 1.4in touchscreen and allows you to tilt and rotate the three-axis gimbal from afar.
DJI’s drone know-how also comes in handy, with various stability modes for when you’re shooting handheld videos, while the Mimo app makes it possible to capture everything from movie-style zoom shots to trippy light trails.
Add the Multifunctional Module 2 (£39) and you can automatically track people, cats, dogs, and other moving objects.

The 3350mAh battery should last up to 10 hours between charges, but if your phone starts to die you can borrow some juice from the 8P, with the necessary USB-C charging cable included in the box.
The Osmo Mobile 8P is compatible with pretty much any smartphone you can think of. There’s a full list on DJI’s website, but it includes 90 Android models and 26 different iPhones, so if yours isn’t on there you must just have very niche taste in tech.
The DJI Osmo Mobile 8P is available now for £135, but for £169 you’ll also get the Multifunctional Module 2 thrown in, while £195 bags you the Creator Combo, which also includes Mic Mini 2 Transmitter and Mic Series Mobile Receiver.
