After releasing some of the best smartphones (and a whole lot more) for decades, Apple turning 50 was always going to bring out a few nostalgic nods – but Porsche’s offering is the best we’ve seen so far.

At this weekend’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship round at Laguna Seca (try saying that quickly), Porsche is fielding two of its top-tier 963 race cars in a special Apple-inspired livery. It’s a one-off design created to celebrate both 50 years of Apple and 75 years of Porsche Motorsport, and it looks great, in our eyes at least.

The look is based on the iconic rainbow Apple Computer design that appeared on a Porsche 935 K3 back in 1980 – that car raced at major events, including Le Mans. This new version brings that same multicoloured aesthetic onto Porsche’s modern hybrid prototype, bridging nearly half a century of motorsport and tech together.

Both factory-entered Porsche 963 cars – numbers 6 and 7 – will wear the throwback colours for the race. The number 7 car, currently leading the championship after wins at Daytona and Sebring, arguably gives the livery a decent shot at some high-profile screen time.

The timing and location aren’t random, either. Laguna Seca sits roughly 80 miles south of Apple Park in California, making it a fitting backdrop for the celebration. The race itself runs for two hours and 40 minutes on 3 May, with Porsche aiming to build on its strong start to the 2026 season.

Earlier in the season, Porsche ran an Apple Music-themed livery at Long Beach, but this latest effort goes deeper, and feels like a more fitting tribute.
