Lego has unveiled two new helmet display sets celebrating McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, timed to coincide with a landmark moment in motorsport history: McLaren‘s 1000th Formula 1 race, taking place this weekend at the Monaco Grand Prix.
Both drivers will also take to the streets of Monte Carlo this weekend wearing real helmets directly based on the new Lego sets – a co-creation between the drivers and the Lego design team.
Daniel Meehan, Creative Lead for Lego F1, said the team worked closely with both drivers throughout the process. “They had some great ideas, which we cannot wait for fans to discover when building the sets at home. Creating such organic shapes at this scale always presents us with exciting opportunities for exploring new building techniques and creative parts usage.”
Both sets come in at 793 pieces and recreate the drivers’ 1000th race anniversary helmet designs in faithful detail (similar to the Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc helmets released at the start of the season).
The Oscar Piastri set merges McLaren’s signature papaya with Oscar’s favourite blue, featuring his driver number and fully printed patterns drawn from the anniversary livery.
The Lando Norris set showcases his iconic fluorescent blob design alongside elements from the celebratory livery – and brick-builds Lando’s coveted new number 1.
Both sit on a black display stand with a printed signature plaque, and each includes a minifigure of the respective driver – the first time either has been rendered in minifig form.
Having seen both sets in person ahead of launch, I can say they’re genuinely impressive. The papaya colourways translate surprisingly well into Lego form, and the organic shapes (tricky to pull off at this scale) are really well executed.
The minifigures are a nice touch, too, and feel very personal to the drivers. If you’re a McLaren fan, this is an insta-buy.
The Lego Editions McLaren Mastercard F1 Team Oscar Piastri Helmet (set no. 43017) and the Lego Editions McLaren Mastercard F1 Team Lando Norris Helmet (set no. 43023) are both priced at $89.99 / £79.99 and are available now on the Lego website and in Lego stores worldwide.
