Apple’s Siri AI available to test drive for some users of the iOS 27 developer beta and eagle-eyed users have noticed it carries hints of a design change for the iPhone 18 Pro range.
The new Siri AI app seems to tie into rumours that Apple plans to significantly decrease the size of the Dynamic Island, which contains the selfie camera and the Face ID sensors. Speculation has suggested the Dynamic Island cut out might be 35% smaller.
In the iOS 27 beta the Dynamic Island on current iPhone models continues to be an oval. However, on the Mac and iPad it reverts to a spherical shape. That may be an indication a uniform design change is coming once the iPhone 18 Pro device is launched.
The change was noticed by developer ‘Lorenzo’ who posted the insight on X (via 9to5Mac). “Apple designed the new Siri with the iPhone 18 Pro/Max in mind, as with the rumoured smaller Dynamic Island it’s a perfect orb,” he wrote. “This explains why it’s not a pill in iPadOS and macOS.”
If you buy a new iPhone 18 Pro/Max this year, it’s likely we’ll see that smaller hardware feature that enables the oval shaped Siri pop out. Due to the physical limitations it’s likely to remain a pill shape on the iPhone 17 range, as Apple showcased during WWDC.
The iPhone 18 Pro models are also expected to offer uniform rear glass and aluminium colours and some new colours this time around. The Dark Cherry model appears like it’ll be the standout offering this time around.
