The iPhone 18 Pro hasn’t officially arrived yet, but that hasn’t stopped the Apple rumour mill from going wild in the lead up to its expected launch later this year. It’s a lot to keep on top of, which is why we’ve gathered up all the rumours and leaks worth knowing about, served below for your reading pleasure.

If you want a short summary – at first glance, the iPhone 18 Pro doesn’t sound like a dramatic redesign. Most reports suggest it’ll look broadly similar to its predecessor, with the same overall shape, screen sizes, and triple-camera setup. Dig a little deeper, though, and some interesting upgrades appear to be onb the cards:

A smaller Dynamic Island, Apple’s first variable aperture camera, a next-generation 2nm A20 Pro chip, brighter displays, longer battery life, and a new C2 modem are all rumoured to be on the way. Apple is also said to be shaking up its launch strategy, splitting the iPhone range across two release windows for the first time in years.

While nothing is official yet, here’s everything we know about the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max so far…

iPhone 18 Pro price and release date

If the current rumours are accurate, Apple is preparing one of the biggest changes to its iPhone launch schedule in years.

Multiple reports suggest that the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will launch in September 2026. The standard iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e, meanwhile, are expected to be pushed back until spring 2027, while Apple’s long-rumoured foldable iPhone is expected to arrive around the same launch cycle as the Pro models.

As for pricing, the good news is that most analysts don’t currently expect a major increase despite the move to more advanced chip technology. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and analyst Jeff Pu both believe that Apple is likely to maintain an aggressive pricing strategy, with prices staying broadly in line with the current generation. There are no credible UK pricing rumours at the time of writing.

As for the design, don’t expect a radical visual overhaul. Current rumours point to Apple keeping most of the iPhone 17 Pro’s design, including the large raised camera plateau and the existing 6.3in and 6.9in form factors. That doesn’t mean nothing is changing, mind.

Several reports state that Apple is working towards a more seamless rear finish by reducing the visual difference between the back glass and frame. The company is also said to be refining the camera housing, with leaked dummy units pointing towards a slightly thicker camera plateau on the Pro Max model.

The Pro Max could become fractionally thicker, too. One rumour claims that Apple will increase battery capacity beyond 5100mAh, which may require a slightly chunkier chassis and a small increase in weight.

Apple is also reportedly working on a revised version of the Camera Control button. According to leaker Instant Digital, the company could remove the button’s capacitive sensing layer while retaining pressure-sensitive controls, reducing cost and complexity without changing how the feature works in everyday use.

As for the colour options, deep red appears to be the upcoming headline option. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has reported that Apple is testing a dark red finish, while other reports suggest the lineup could include Dark Cherry, Light Blue, Dark Gray, and Silver.

iPhone 18 Pro screen

Elsewhere, the display upgrades could be just as substantial as the exterior facelift. The biggest rumour revolves around the Dynamic Island. Apple is widely expected to shrink it, though reports disagree on exactly how that will happen. Some sources believe that certain Face ID components will move beneath the display, while others suggest that Apple will simply cut the existing hardware down to size – something that’s far easier said than done.

As for the screen sizes themselves, they’re expected to stay the same at 6.3in and 6.9in for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, respectively. Apple is also rumoured to be adopting new LTPO+ display technology. According to reports, the updated panels should be more power efficient while offering finer control over brightness levels. That could help improve battery life, with improved brightness in the process.

iPhone 18 Pro cameras

Several sources claim that Apple is finally preparing to introduce a variable aperture camera system on the iPhone 18 Pro range. The feature would allow the camera to physically adjust how much light reaches the sensor, giving photographers greater control over depth of field, background blur, exposure, and low-light performance.

It’s certainly very interesting if true – variable aperture camera tech has traditionally been found on dedicated cameras and a handful of high-end Android phones.

The telephoto camera could also receive a wider aperture, allowing more light to reach the sensor for improved low-light zoom shots. Several reports also point towards a rumoured new Samsung-developed three-layer stacked image sensor that could reduce image noise, improve dynamic range, and make the camera system more responsive.

There’s also talk of a selfie camera upgrade. The current 18MP front camera could reportedly make way for a new 24MP sensor, potentially improving both video calls and low-light selfies.

iPhone 18 Pro performance

The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to debut Apple’s next-generation A20 Pro processor.

According to multiple reports, the chip will be manufactured using TSMC’s 2nm process, marking Apple’s first move away from the 3nm technology used in recent generations. The transition should allow for more transistors in the same space, boosting both performance and efficiency.

Current estimates suggest performance improvements of around 15 per cent and efficiency gains of approximately 30 per cent compared to the A19 generation. As always, real-world results will depend on how Apple chooses to use that extra headroom.

The A20 series is also expected to use TSMC’s Wafer-Level Multi-Chip Module packaging technology, integrating memory more closely with the processor and potentially improving bandwidth, responsiveness, and Apple Intelligence performance.

The iPhone 18 Pro will also ship with iOS 27, bringing Apple’s rebuilt Siri AI experience and the next generation of Apple Intelligence features. Current rumours suggest the phone will continue to feature 12GB of RAM, allowing it to support the full range of AI-powered tools.

iPhone 18 Pro power and battery life

iPhone 17 Pro Max

Battery life already ranks among the iPhone’s biggest strengths, and Apple reportedly wants to push things even further.

The iPhone 18 Pro Max is rumoured to feature a battery capacity of between 5100mAh and 5200mAh, making it the largest battery ever fitted to an iPhone. Combined with the efficiency improvements expected from the A20 Pro chip and LTPO+ display technology, that could translate into another noticeable endurance boost.

The smaller iPhone 18 Pro could also see a modest battery increase. Current rumours point to a capacity of 4288mAh for eSIM-only models, up from 4252mAh on the current generation.

Connectivity upgrades are expected too – Apple’s second-generation C2 modem is widely tipped to debut in the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. Reports suggest it will deliver faster speeds, better power efficiency, and support for mmWave 5G in markets such as the US.
Apple is also rumoured to be working towards full satellite internet connectivity.

Unlike today’s emergency-focused satellite features, future versions could potentially provide internet access when traditional mobile networks aren’t available. The current expectation is that Apple will retain its N1 wireless chip, meaning support for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread connectivity should continue.

That’s everything we know about the Apple iPhone 18 Pro so far, but stay tuned for more updates, as and when they come in.
