It’s not just the best laptops like the MacBook Neo that are being hit by component prices. The Nintendo Switch 2 price is going up, too.
From September, in the US, the Switch 2 will jump from $449.99 to $499.99. Across most of Europe, the price is climbing from €469.99 to €499.99. UK pricing, however, remains a mystery for now.
According to Nintendo Life, Nintendo told the site that “the revised price of Nintendo Switch 2 on My Nintendo Store in other European currencies will be shared at a later date.” Right now, the console costs £395.99 in the UK, but a UK increase looks increasingly likely.
Nintendo says the hikes are down to “changes in market conditions” and the wider “global business outlook”. The company also said it sincerely apologised for the impact these price revisions may have on customers and stakeholders.
The timing isn’t exactly surprising. The tech industry’s been wrestling with rising component costs for months, particularly around RAM and storage. Those same components are also in huge demand for AI servers and data centres, which has helped push prices skyward.
Nintendo’s not alone here, either. PlayStation 5 prices recently went up in multiple regions too, with Sony blaming “continued pressures in the global economic landscape”.
The awkward part for Nintendo is that this comes despite the Switch 2 selling absurdly well. The company says it has already shifted nearly 20 million consoles since launch last June, while annual profits jumped 52 per cent year-on-year to 424 billion yen.
Either way, if you’ve been debating snapping up a Switch 2, you might want to do it sooner rather than later.
