Range Rover, the Original Luxury SUV (Land Rover’s words, not ours) has spent 56 years building a reputation on effortless power, plush interiors and the ability to wade through rivers most cars wouldn’t dare look at. It might genuinely be my favourite car ever.
Now it’s doing all of that with two electric motors instead of a V8, and it’s arrived with a staggering amount of engineering behind it.
Here’s everything you need to know before buying one.
1. It’s got proper power, and even more torque than the V8
Range Rover Electric packs twin 260kW motors good for up to 550PS and 850Nm of torque – more grunt than any Range Rover before it (V8 included).
That’s enough for 0-60mph in as little as 4.3 seconds, with 50-75mph overtakes dispatched in 2.7 seconds.
For a car this size, that’s very impressive.
2. Range tops out at 372 miles, with fast charging to match
The headline WLTP figure is 372 miles, while real-world range is quoted at up to 333 miles. Range Rover says most owners won’t need to charge for their daily driving at all.
When you do need to plug in, the 118.5kWh double-stacked battery uses 800-volt architecture to charge from 10-80% in around 22 minutes on a 350kW rapid charger, or add 137 miles in just 10 minutes.
3. The traction tech reacts 100 times faster than a combustion engine
This is where things get really clever. Range Rover Electric’s Integrated Traction Management system can control motor speed and manage slip in as little as 50 milliseconds – Range Rover claims that’s 100 times quicker than an equivalent combustion engine.
Paired with Intelligent Driveline Dynamics, which can shift rear torque anywhere between 0 and 100%, it’s designed to keep all‑terrain capability intact regardless of what surface is underneath you.

4. It can wade through 900mm of water and climb 45-degree slopes
It’s still very much a Range Rover, then. The new Single Pedal mode lets drivers pull away smoothly on inclines as steep as 33 degrees – roughly the gradient of a black-diamond ski run – and complete rolling climbs up to 45 degrees.
Wading depth remains an unchanged-from-tradition 900mm.
5. It’s the most patented Range Rover ever
JLR has filed over 300 patent applications for Range Rover Electric, more than for any other vehicle in the brand’s history.
Among the new tech is ThermAssist, a heat management system that optimises range, charging speed and battery longevity in extreme temperatures – JLR says it can add up to 25 miles of range and cut heating energy use by 40%.
6. It’s built in Solihull, alongside the petrol and hybrid versions
Range Rover Electric shares its production line with mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid and combustion Range Rovers at JLR’s Solihull plant, where the company has trained 9000 staff for electrification.
Batteries and electric drive units come from JLR’s Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Centre in Wolverhampton, now the UK’s largest site for both combustion and electric powertrain production.

7. Prices start at $138,000 / £154,070, and orders are open now
Range Rover Electric is available to order in standard and long-wheelbase body styles, across SE, HSE, Autobiography, SV, SV Ultra and SV Black specifications.
There’s also a First Edition, finished exclusively in Belgravia Green, Santorini Black or Varesine Blue with new Light Cloud Ultrafabrics PU and Kvadrat interior trim.
