The first Apple TV 4K streaming box in four years could finally arrive in the next month, and a new leak has moved that possibility closer to a certainty.
MacRumors has discovered an “image file from Apple for an unreleased Apple 4K” that names the Apple TV 4th generation by name. According to the image discovered by the contributor, Apple will stick with the familiar hockey puck design for the fourth generation model in the series. Not that it matters too much for a device that largely sits out of view around the television.
Apple last revealed an Apple TV model all the way back in 2022 and, although it’s not a device that requires updating very often, the emergence of Apple Intelligence and the new Siri AI platform means an update is now absolutely necessary. The current A15 Bionic chip and 4GB of RAM won’t cut the mustard in that regard.
According to rumours Apple will include 2023’s A17 Pro chip that will unlock gaming features like ray tracing. However, critically, Apple may double the RAM to 8GB, which would allow for the bulk of the Apple Intelligence features to accessible. According to the speculation, Apple will also chuck in the N1 processor that includes Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 support.
Another big talking point will be the price. Apple raised the prices in June and in doing so pushed the Apple TV 4K 3rd generation price up to $199. That’s outlandishly expensive given the price of the competition from the likes of Amazon, Google and Roku.
We can’t see a new model being priced any lower than that, especially given double the RAM is likely to be on board, as well as a newer processor.
