Apple is planning the largest ever display for a hinge-less iPhone for the 20-year anniversary edition expected in 2027, according to new supply chain report.

According to the report, Apple is planning a 7-inch display for the landmark phone edition, which is a little bit larger than the 6.9-inch offering for the current iPhone 17 Pro Max.

It’s possible Apple will be able to achieve this without making the handset itself any larger. The rumour mill has long suggested the 20th anniversary edition will have a true edge-to-edge display with no bezels. The company has long envisioned an iPhone that appears to be a “single slab of glass,” while it has also been reportedly keen to make the 20-year anniversary version something to remember from a design perspective.

The report comes from Digital Chat Station, which says Apple is playing with a 6.96-inch screen that it could market as 7-inches. The outlet in question has a mixed track record in this regard, but enough hits to suggest this is worth reading into.

“An exclusive and forward-looking information shows that Apple is proofing a super-large screen with a physical size of 6.96 inches and a standard size of 7 inches,” the report (translated) says.

I’d say this would be the first time Apple crossed the 7-inch barrier for the iPhone, but the folding iPhone Ultra could have a 7.6-inch display when opened up. It’s a big couple of years for the iPhone. Which would make the biggest splash? A first foldable or a design that’s arguably the pinnacle of candy bar smartphone design?
