Hamilton has teamed up with Christopher Nolan again, but this time there’s no watch on screen. Instead, the brand has built an entire timepiece around Nolan’s new film, The Odyssey. It’s called the Khaki Field Auto The Odyssey Limited Edition. Nolan and Hamilton go way back. They’ve worked together on Interstellar, Tenet and Oppenheimer. But this is the first time Hamilton has designed a watch as a tribute to a story, rather than a prop within it. After all, it might be a teeny bit jarring to see Odysseus rock up with a field watch on his wrist. You see,…

Convenience isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. I once thought it was. But I was wrong. The thing is, I come from the era of tapes. For music. For TV shows. Even for computer games. You think it’s bad now when your console decides to download an update? Try waiting 20 minutes for a game to – possibly – load from tape, before allowing you to feast on pixels so sharp they almost slice up your eyeballs. Hence, you know, me being quite glad when things sped up a bit. Floppy disks! Shiny discs! The magic of on-demand! A hundred million songs…

If you’re not heavily invested in Amazon’s ecosystem, I think the Kobo Libra Colour is a better buy than its closest Amazon rival, the $249.99 Kindle Colorsoft. It offers many of the same core features, including a sharp seven-inch color display that makes book covers, comics, and highlights pop with only slightly less vibrancy than the color Kindle. It’s also waterproof so you can rest easy at the beach, and features adjustable warm lighting for more comfortable nighttime reading. The Kobo also has a few advantages over Amazon’s e-reader. It supports EPUB and a broader range of file formats, making it…

Apple revealed its next major smartphone software update in June. Called iOS 27, it will work best with the latest iPhones, and it’ll come pre-installed on the upcoming iPhone 17. There are beta versions including one for public consumption, but the full release will take place in September when it will launch alongside the rumored iPhone Fold and iPhone 18 Pro (the iPhone 18 seems set to debut in early 2027). A whole bunch of older iPhones will also get the free software update – stretching back around five years. As of last year,Apple’s software versions are now named after the…

Smart speakers have spent the past few years searching for a compelling second act. Beyond music, timers, and controlling your lights, they’ve struggled to justify taking up space on the kitchen counter. AI promised to change that.Amazon debuted its new hardware powered by a revamped Alexa last fall, and now it’s finally Google’s turn. The Google Home Speaker is the company’s first new smart speaker in six years and its first “built for Gemini.” After years of neglect, Google appears to be finally getting serious about the smart home — again. The new speaker is the clearest sign yet. Gemini…

Sony has announced that from January 2028 it will entirely stop the production of physical discs for new PlayStation games. From that point onwards, new releases will only be available in digital versions from the PlayStation Store and other retailers. Games released before January 2028 will still be available on disc.“This is a natural direction for Sony Interactive Entertainment to adapt to consumer trends as the general preference for digital media significantly outpaces physical discs,” Sony said in its announcement. “This transition will enable us to align more closely with how most of our community prefers to access and play…

I couldn’t believe it. Surely Dbrand had to have seen this coming. There must be a plan B, right?“There is no further plan. We fucked this one up,” Dbrand CEO Adam Ijaz now tells me.He says Dbrand will now have to destroy every single cube it manufactured, and it won’t even get to throw them in an incinerator for thematically appropriate fun. Here’s the good news: I took up-close-and-personal photos of the (likely) copyright-infringing gadget for posterity on June 19th, before the lawyers struck. You can wistfully imagine what could have been, or use them as an outlet for your schadenfreude…

Getty is planning to axe its $3.7 billion merger agreement with Shutterstock after a UK regulator imposed restrictions that would prevent part of Shutterstock’s business from being included in the deal. The move comes despite the US Department of Justice granting the deal “unconditional antitrust clearance” in February. In an SEC filing published on Tuesday in the US, Getty said it is “not required to accept” approval conditions outlined by the UK Competition and Markets Authority in May that require Shutterstock to sell its global editorial business, including the Backgrid and Splash paparazzi agencies. Those conditions have proved unappealing enough for Getty…

If you have a newer Apple phone in your pocket, you’ve got a bunch of excellent cameras in easy reach. They’re superb for stills, but also take fantastic video footage, and iPhone Action Mode is a big reason why. Action Mode was introduced in the iPhone 14 series, and is meant to prevent your vids from being ruined by shaky hands. The digital image stabilisation tech helps keep those otherwise blurry frames from Saturday night looking clean and crisp – which may not be a good thing, depending on what you got up to. To get smoother shots, follow our…

One thing nobody tells you about getting older is that you’ll start to get excited about new cleaning products. I don’t mean that you’ll look forward to restocking your cupboards with bottles of bleach (although the day you discover Bar Keepers Friend is a momentous one), rather that you’ll take almost as much joy from unboxing a new cleaning gadget as you would from getting a new phone. That explains the small buzz I felt when I first saw the Philips OneUp 5000. I’d always thought that the concept of mopping was pretty flawed – am I not just pushing…

Okay, so the Apple iPad Mini 8 technically doesn’t officially exist. But we all know it’s coming. After all, Apple isn’t the type to rest on its laurels when it comes to refreshes, and tablets are no exception. Nothing has been officially announced, of course, but there are enough whispers, rumours, and analyst insights to paint a reasonably clear picture of what to expect. Here’s everything we know so far about the iPad Mini 8. Oh, and all the images in this article are of the current-generation iPad Mini 7. We haven’t got a super-secret Apple prototype or anything. Honest.…
