Google has revealed a new version of the Fitbit Air wearable fitness and wellness tracker, which incorporates the Pokémon Sleep app that incentivises good sleep and healthy sleep routines.
The Fitbit Air Special Edition Pokémon Sleep, to give it its full title, features a custom design that might encourage more folks, especially younger fans, to engage with the device, begin playing the game, and seek better sleep as a result.
We can see some parents throwing this on the Christmas list to encourage their offspring to go to bed at the same time every night for sure. The 30th anniversary Pokémon celebrations are another nice bit of synergy.
There’s nothing unique about the hardware’s tracking abilities – it’s a standard Fitbit Air – however there is integration with Google Health and that passes the sleep data onto the Pokémon Sleep app. The wrist-worn component will offer more accurate data than the Pokémon Sleep app, which just sits next to the pillow.
The sleep data informs your progress in the game and offers interactive rewards for good sleep performance. The game has been around since 2023, but if you’ve not’ve not heard of the game before, Google explains it as follows:
– Gather Pokémon around Snorlax: When you wake up, Pokémon with sleep types similar to yours gather around Snorlax. Research their sleeping styles to complete your Sleep Style Dex and befriend new helper Pokémon to your team.
– Calculate your Drowsy Power: The Pokémon you befriend collect Berries to raise Snorlax’s Strength. When you wake up, your Sleep Score, calculated from sleep duration tracked from Google Health, multiplies Snorlax’s Strength to generate “Drowsy Power.”
– Discover rare sleep styles: The higher your Drowsy Power, the more Pokémon — and rare sleep styles — will appear around Snorlax the next day.
The device is available for pre-order today and will be available from September 15 for the same $99 price as the Fitbit Air. UK availability has not been confirmed.
