Come on now, Samsung! A 1,100Hz refresh rate on a gaming monitor? This is getting awesomely silly. Over at Gamescom, Samsung has announced the final specification for its next Odyssey G6 (G60H) monitor first previewed at CES and the company has since boosted the vertical refresh rate from the originally announced in January by an additional 60Hz.
Naturally, Samsung says, it’s a world’s first and means each frame you see (or don’t see) while gaming will be displayed for less than a millisecond. However, that’s only when you drop the resolution to 1280×720. The the 27-inch IPS LCD monitor can still display 600Hz when operating at the top 2560×1400 resolution. That’s still an incredibly smooth refresh rate – all the more impressive for going for LCD rather than OLED display tech.
The rest of the monitors in Samsung’s quartet of new gaming displays are indeed OLED. They include the new Odyssey OLED G7 (G75SJ). Samsung dubs that display the first 42-inch 16:9 curved OLED monitor, which is a bit of a mouthful. It also offers 4K resolution, a 1000R curve and 165Hz refresh rate.
Moving on to the OLED G8 (G80SK), which is a much more traditionally shaped panel. It’s a 32-inch OLED screen that also offers impressive refresh rates depending on the resolution you choose.
At 4K it’s 360Hz, at QHD it’s 520Hz and at regular ol’ 1080p HD you’ll get a whopping 680Hz refresh rate. Beyond that, it provides FreeSync Premium Pro and VESA DisplayHDR 600 certification.
Last but certainly not least is the Odyssey OLED G9. The beastly 49-incher with D…D…D… Double Quad High Definition and a resolution of 5120×1440 with a 32:9 supersede aspect ratio. The 1300 nits of brightness might be the star of the show here, especially considering it’s an OLED panel. Refresh rate is 360Hz, response time is 0.03ms.
Samsung is also promising some significant durability for your significant outlay. The Penta Tandem OLED tech offers – as the name suggests – a five layer panel that promises double the runtime of previous generations of OLED.
