Remember back in April when Google Pixel phone owners began complaining about a battery drain issue? Well almost four months later the company has gotten around to fixing it… apparently.
Google’s regular updates are legendary for breaking things that are perfectly fine while fixing other stuff and this issue became apparent following the launch of Google’s April update. Some users reported battery life had been chopped by half seemingly by the phone’s CPU working constantly in the background, even when the screen was turned off. Some users reported that the issue was even present when the phone was in airplane mode.
Back on April 14, Google revealed it was investigating the reports and, in the last couple of days, the company posted an update on its issue tracker claiming the problems have been resolved. The update teases the Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 series phones were taken care of in the July update and the Pixel 8a/9a will be sorted within the September update.

Google has fixed the “Severe Idle Drain: kepler_spi_irq_handler & gnss_ipc Suspend Aborts” issue. A fix has been merged in the July MPR(CP2A.260705.006) release for Pixel 9 Pro XL/Pixel 9 Pro/ Pixel 9/Pixel 10 Pro XL/Pixel 10 Pro/Pixel 10/Pixel 10a.
For Pixel 8a/Pixel9a, the fix will be included in the Sep QPR.
However, not all users are convinced. 9to5Google points out that in the same support threat where users registered their displeasure, they also reported still experiencing the problems. One wrote: “Also not fixed on my P9P running build CP2A.260705.006. Please reopen this bug and fix this massive battery drain.” Others point out that Google has not addressed the issue when it comes to earlier Pixel devices still in circulation. “What about Pixel 7 Pro?” one user clearly feeling left behind complained.
