When Apple announced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max last week, it did so with the promise of “huge leaps in battery life” thanks, in part, to some larger physical batteries but also due to some newfound processor efficiency.
Indeed, Apple said the the iPhone 18 Pro Max in particular “delivers the largest increase in battery life ever on iPhone”.
It’s all great news, and we’ll love it when the iPhone 18 Pro is delivering 36 hours of video playback, and the iPhone 18 Pro Max is delivering 45 hours of playback. And, with a marked increase in wired charging that promises to get the phones back to full health in under an hour, we’re going to be going around the clock with no hassle at all.
However, a little farther down the line, we may end up paying a little extra for those larger batteries. Apple has revealed how much it will cost to replace the battery in both Pro and Pro Max models, if it’s out of warranty. The cost in the United States is $129, which is $10 up on the cost of the last two years’ handsets. However, that’s an increase of $30 on the price of replacing an iPhone 15 Pro battery just two years ago.
Given the battery offers greater capacity – occupying more space once taken up by the physical SIM tray – it stands to reason it’s going to cost more. However, it’s not a given that you’ll have to pay this as Apple has deployed plenty of battery health tools that make it possible to manage the cell’s longevity.
The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are out on Friday. Aside from that boost to battery life, buyers can also expect cameras with a variable aperture lens for more creative freedom, and more power from the A20 Pro processor.
