Apple is planning to get hardware out of the gate faster and more regularly under the leadership of new CEO John Ternus, according to a new report.

Sources within Apple have told Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman that the company is hoping to get more nimble with its hardware release strategy. Currently, Apple stacks its hardware releases in to two windows – spring and autumn. Then the summer is usually software focused.

While we just had the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo reveals ahead of a reported surge in smart home products next month, Ternus wants Apple to accelerate development in order to reveal and release the new products more often.

The report from Bloomberg says Ternus wants Apple to “broaden its range of devices and create a leaner organisation with a greater focus on engineering.” The sources tell Gurman that Ternus wants Apple to be “more experimental”.

According to the report, those in charge of development teams are “being pushed to deliver more products, more frequently and on shorter timelines.”

The news mightn’t be all that good if you’re a relatively senior Apple employee though. The company is reportedly planning on wiping out some of its middle management positions. It could end up streamlining the pathway between its workhorse engineers and the top brass. The new CEO wants Apple to “accomplish more with fewer employees” and that “Apple should hire fewer people, ask more of its existing engineers, and reduce organisational bloat.”
