With energy bills spiralling, it’s now worth spending a few bucks to save a few bucks. And right now there’s a tempting Memorial Day deal on the Google Nest Learning 4th-Gen.

Amazon is offering $50 off the Nest Learning Thermostat 4th Gen, bringing the price down to $230. That’s an 18% reduction on the $280 asking price. Amazon’s deal also comes with a Temperature Sensor, which can be placed in any room to ensure that’s the room meeting the desired temp. There’s free delivery with Amazon Prime and three colours to choose from: polished silver, gold and obsidian.

Google reckons you can save around 31% on your cooling and heating bills and in this literal and metaphorical climate, that’s definitely worth considering. The fourth generation model, which came out in the summer of 2024 has a larger display with a customisable home screen, and a much sleeker design. Google also added a system health monitor that can forewarn you when there’s something amiss with your AC. That would have been handy for me lately when our unit got overwhelmed by gunk and was working way too hard.

At the time, we wrote: “This bad boy is packed with advanced AI to help you save energy and keep your home comfy. It learns your schedule, makes micro-adjustments based on your patterns, and even takes into account the weather outside. So, if it’s a sunny winter day and your house naturally warms up, the thermostat will ease off on the heating.

“The 4th-gen Nest also comes with a redesigned Nest Temperature Sensor, which is included in the box. It helps you manage hot and cold spots in your home. You can add up to six sensors, ensuring every room is just the right temperature. The sensors are discreet, pebble-like, and can either sit on a shelf or be hung up easily. They’re not just smart, they’re practical.”
