The summer is over, and with the days shortening and the temperatures dropping, our thoughts are turning away from wholesome outdoor activities and back to one of our favourite things: lying on the sofa binge-watching TV and movies on streaming services all weekend.
Don’t worry – we’ll make sure we get up to take a walk at regular invervals (even if it’s just to the fridge and back to re-up on Quorn snack eggs and Coke Zero). But in all honesty, there’s plenty to keep us welded to the couch in September 2026. Like all the new movies and TV shows we’ve picked out below, all of which are arriving on streaming services this month.
The Gentlemen
Guy Ritchie’s cannabis caper returns after a two-year hiatus, with Eddie and Susie (Theo James and Kaya Scodelario) now running Bobby’s dope-trafficking empire overseas. The setting shifts from the English countryside to Italy’s Lake Maggiore, with the huge ensemble cast swelling further via Hugh Bonneville and, bizarrely, boxer Chris Eubank Jr.
S2 / Netflix, 3 Sept
Mayday
Ryan Reynolds (playing himself, as ever) and Kenneth Branagh (apparently in full scenery-chewing mode) play a Cold War odd couple in this buddy comedy from the makers of the excellent Game Night. One’s a downed US pilot, the other an America-loving ex-KGB agent attempting to get him back to Uncle Sam.

Slow Horses
Schlubby spymaster Jackson Lamb and MI5 misfits return, this time with the series breaking a five-season tradition by adapting two of Mick Herron’s Slough House novels rather than one. The Slow Horses seem set to spend most of this season on the run, which should suits the show’s grubby, fast-moving vibe just fine.
S6 / Apple TV, 16 Sept
Neagley
This spin-off from Amazon’s excellent Reacher series focuses on the mercurial Frances Neagley, P.I. and protégé of the big guy himself, as she investigates a friend’s suspicious death. Reacher fans can look forward to Alan Ritchson popping up at least once, even if Neagley is the star of this particular show.

Brothers
This eight-part comedy reunites Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson for the first time since True Detective. The pair play fictionalised versions of themselves who, after deciding to live together with their families on McConaughey’s Texas ranch, discover that they may in fact be siblings.
