Of all the smart home sectors you’d think AI would impose upon, getting the dishes clean wouldn’t be high on the list. But then again, there is that oft-repeated quote: “I want AI to do my laundry and dishes so that I can do art and writing, not for AI to do my art and writing so that I can do my laundry and dishes.”
So the author Joanna Maciejewska might be pleased to see there’s a new dishwasher – which also happens to be the world’s smallest countertop dishwasher – that promises to get your dinnerware clean in as little as 15-minutes with a little help from generative AI.
Two years after a successful launch on Kickstarter (which raised $350,000), the Lissome R1 is almost ready for prime time. It’s notable for its AI sensor, which is used to “sense water turbidity and grease levels, which then helps it adjust each spray arm’s trajectory, water pressure, and detergent use.”
The point of that is to reduce water and detergent waste, with the company advising that it may be ideal for people in camper vans and such. Of course the size and capacity of the Lissome R1 – just 28cm wide with room for three standard place settings – helps with the faster clean. However, these also a pretty neat-sounding Sweeping Jet Technology, which promises a 360-degree clean from 32 water jets that push out the wet stuff at 100,000 Pa.
It also nice and hygienic thanks to the centrifugal and peristaltic pumps that can drain away the water rapidly leaving no residue and limiting the opportunity for bacteria to take told. It doesn’t even require an inlet, which means it’s a nice option for off-grinders and people who rent apartments.
The Lissom R1 will be on show at the IFA tech show next month ahead of its European debut. It’ll be out by the end of 2026. Pricing to be confirmed.
