Apple’s latest MacBook Air M5 model is considered by Stuff to be the best MacBook laptop for the vast majority of people, so we love seeing the value for money boosted a little more.

As part of its Memorial Day tech sales, Amazon is knocking $100 off the MacBook Air M5, bringing the price down to $999. This is for the 13-inch model with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD storage. Today lowest price is available on the Sky Blue variant of the laptop, while the other colours are around $50 off.

That’s 9% off in total, off the model that was released just over two months ago and carries the latest version of the Apple Silicon processor lineage. This one will probably remain the newest model for at least another nine months, so it’s not like Apple is looking to get rid of them.

By bringing this closer to the price of the $599 MacBook Neo, which uses an A-Series chip, the MacBook Air M5 might now be more attractive. This also wipes out the price increase Apple put in place over the $999 for the MacBook Air M4 too. Winner.

As well as the faster chip, the M5 MacBook Air also doubled the starting storage over its predecessor and improved the wireless connectivity with support for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 served up by Apple’s N1 chip. Our reviewer found the read/write speeds of the M5 model’s SSD were much faster than the M4.

Our reviewer gave the MacBook Air M5 a five-star review for its silent-yet-zippy performance, great build quality, and for being more future-proof than the MacBook Neo. It’s certainly not as flashy in terms of colour, but it’s a great performer that won’t let you down.

Our review concluded: “The middle ground is not a bad place to be, then. Cheaper than the Pro. Better than the Neo. And with its balance of power, design and value, the MacBook Air M5 squeaks Stuff’s top rating. But for playing things a bit too safe, I’m not giving it a fancy badge.”
